Problems getting to this site

Post by Jonny69 » Mon Jan 02, 2006 10:37 am

Hi chaps, not sure who can help here. I have constant problems accessing this site and forum. I use a tekkie forum and we've whittled it down using a tracert to see how many servers my computer goes through before it lands here. It's about 12 to 16 from day to day, but consistently gets stuck at one of them as if it's a blocked IP address.

If I disconnect and reconnect my internet connection a few times, which gives me a new IP address eventually I can get through, but this can mean up to 10 attempts which is very frustrating. Once I'm in it's normally fine, but obviously once I restart the computer I have to go through it all again.

I have tried this site on a couple of my customers' computers and it seems to be depending on the ISP. Wanadoo gets stuck all the time and all the others are fine. What's blocking my IP address?

I can post something and it posts but doesn't offer me the edit buttom sometimes and if I try and it does offer me the edit button it says you can only edit your own posts. Other times I'm in, and I go to post another thought, and I have to log in again.
Sometimes I can't even connect, and I have found sometimes it helps if after I put in my name and password to hold the enter key down or tap it repeatedly as if trying to make sure the signal gets through.
It's wacky. I sense there is a very short time limit to post things. I know when the site is being fussy, I have to compose a thought quickly or else lose it when I go to send it, I'm thrown back to the log in page. Or if when I first arrive I can log in and then go to a topic and then have to log in again. About 20% of the time clearing my history and cookies helps.

It doesn't happen often, but the occasional lost post is enough to make me compose in another editor.

I for myself have ISP based problems. In the two towns I'm at, I'm using different ISPs. One works without any problems, the other couldn't solve the blockage problem of the site even on request. Weird.

Mk, this is my problem here. I spoke to my ISP and they said the site must be down, but I knew it wasn't because at the same time I had some forum users browsing the site for me. Basically once I get on if I leave it connected to the internet it is fine, but as soon as I reconnect I have problems accessing the whole site.

Skyfrog, any idea which ISP your friend in Cambridge is using?

If I type anything long-winded, I highlight it, copy it, and then mail it to myself. Then I can just drop it back in the frame here. I can only imagine all the lost treasure I could have presented had I learned this trick sooner. ha

Hey Mark, just to make your life easier in case I got your proposal correctly.
No need to mail it to yourself. I've been fine with the following methode:
- Writing up the stuff to post.
- Marking the text.
- Hitting "ctrl" together with "c".
- Releasing the post.
- In case of gotten logged out, put the curser to the editor field and press "ctrl" and "v" together.

Voilá.

---

I cannot even get a ping from the pulse-jets.com server when trying it in one of the towns.

I too have had the droped and lost post thing.

Not enough to mess with....

The other day, I couldn't get to the site at all..

All I would receive was Page Not Found...

I assumed it was due to High Traffic Flow!!!

Thanks Marten, I will give it a try. There's nothing more fun that pressing send and have your work disappear and then hitting the back button to find it has thrown you all the way back to the main page half the time and your work vanished.

Sorry, nope. don't know what ISP he was using.

The only thing I know was, not the server to be blamed, because by that time I didn't have any problems accessing this forum.

Ok Ben, next time I can't get through I'll copy a tracert here. It's always the same server it gets stuck on so it might be useful information. I'll do a before and after trace and my IP addresses for each case if that's any use.

Typical though, I've managed to get through first time twice in a row now!

Well at least that's one thing I can still do for free over here.

The classic car (Anglia) is also free from road tax, unlike modern cars.
