In the lastest edition of Popular Science, there was a pistol towards the back of the magazine, a recap of things that were discoverd in the past, this one in the 1930's I think. There was a gun, a gun that fired a shot of gas. The gun looked ordinary except for the barrel. It was for the most part just a pistol with a diverging barrel and not much longer than an ordinary hand gun. The blast of gases would impact the victim causing him to fall to the ground. It reminded me of the large toy "vortex" gun I bought that fires a torus of air and it blasts a house plant into a shutter at 20 feet.
Imagine firing a bullet of gas and plinking the victim enough to floor him. I wonder what the range was if it worked beyond 6 feet or so? The barrel reminded me of a horn or the Lockwood tail cone. Perhaps the barrel was 8 or 9 inches long at the most.
