Re: Cutting noise

I may have missed something. If thats supposed to be a spring, I see it as subordinate to the CC pressure, which makes the spring loaded from the CC gas as thats the most significant pressure source. If it is to work as a fresh air spring, that would require the spring to be loaded with fresh air t...

I don't think so. The chamber will not fill with spent gas. It is already full of air, which will be slightly compressed. It will function like an air spring.

This is probably where the double-walled intake with perforations I have mentioned comes in. It absorbs some of the overpressure. Here's a picture.

Re: Cutting noise

The motor needs to be designed for the conditions, though. If it did not have the noise cancelling shroud, then the motor is designed for the pop to hit ambient air pressure at the exit. If the shroud is there, then there is now a negative pressure wave arriving at the exit at the same time as the ...

Re: Cutting noise

Well I stand by that using pressure to cancel pressure requires a energy loss somewhere. Sure. But, not all the energy we perceive as noise goes into the engine cycle, does it? The trick is surely to leave the 'functional' or 'inside' noise be, while cutting the 'harmful' or 'outside' noise. It's t...

Re: Cutting noise

I wonder if that would work in pulse-jet engines. Isn't reducing the sound produced the same as reducing the sound energy the engine needs to function? It probably is. However, there may still be payoff there. All engineering is compromise of one kind or another. There may be a sweet spot where noi...

Hi Bruno! I was just thinking about you. I hope all is well, or some of it is well, or something like that!
Hi, Mike!

Alas, everything is not well. But, as with the curate's egg, parts of it are OK, I guess. We'll live.

Hope this finds you and your family well.

Re: FWE ShortLady pulsejet running on petrol

To run it on a liquid fuel like petrol or diesel, you need to produce a mixture of atomized fuel and air. This is done either in a carburetor or with fuel injection. If you choose fuel injection, you will need to find a way to detect the pressure pulses and have the detector instruct the fuel pump t...

Hey, Paul! What's up? Do let me know. I'm a rare visitor here these days. Find me on the Facebook; I'm there much more frequently. Or mail me at Bruno.Ogorelec(at)gmail.com Hahahaha I just remembered our first efforts -- the Chinese that produced thrust, as you said, equivalent to "a hamster blowing...

Re: Nord 1500 Griffon Project

Wow! Thank you. Makes a nice ending to a nice Saturday. I still keep an eye on the field, but from a great distance. I left the forum for all practical purposes a long time ago, when it became thoroughly unpleasant. By that time, however, I had very little to contribute anymore. It was no great loss...

are there any other good theoretical reads that spring to mind? Bwahahahahaha any other good theoretical reads... That's a good one. My paper is very far from a good theoretical read. I've been begging people for help on making it better and sounder and more serious on theory, but no one I have ask...

Re: Free radical ignition in piston engines at last

Ha! took them long enough indeed. It's actually a pretty simple concept... Very simple on paper (and in a pulsejet) but in practice it obviously doesn't work as simply as that. I guess the four separate 'strokes' aspirate the engine so well that all traces of free radicals are removed. You can see ...

Free radical ignition in piston engines at last

Guys, it is finally with us -- after at least a decade, but more probably two or three, of research and development, pulsejet-style ignition seems to be ready for use in piston engines. Look at this article: http://www.gizmag.com/go/4695/ In the same online magazine, there is also an announcement of...
