Bruno - OK. Here's what I mean that should be happening, if the geometry is properly tuned for a particular frequency and operating temperature: 1. The bucket is unpressurized and contains mostly air, because its own Kadenacy action has pulled air in after the last cycle. The mixture in the combusti...

Never Hopeless

>Larry, I think this is a hopeless task. If you intend to use the rebound of compressed gas from the 'bucket', this bucket will have to be very long to accommodate all the gas spewed out of the engine intake, and to start spewing it back only after the 'normal' intake is over. If the compressed gas...

Working at Solar

Mark, Bruno, Pieter - This was my Dad's era working at Solar's Des Moines headquarters. I'm sure that if he'd worked on these, I would know about it -- he would have at least mentioned it when I was saving up to buy my Dynajet. I know he welded titanium tailcones and stainless vanes & buckets on whe...

Ivar - Like most of my drawings, this is not meant to be to scale, just intended to get people thinking about the principle. I expect that experimentation would lead to a longer bucket than I have shown. Some of it would depend on how much gap is really effective between the intake and the bucket. R...

Ivar - Theoretically, you could do that, with the turbine located just behind the 'nozzle zone', but I think it might be more trouble than it's worth. The materials would need to be really good -- inconel or titanium; and the drag would have to be really low, so the inevitable backpressure as each p...

Mike - That's why I'm thinking it would be better in an augmentor -- you'd have higher mass flow and you wouldn't have strong flow reversal. [It was definitely designed to be part of a constant-flow system.] And you're right -- it is a lot like the variety of Aeromotor rotors that were set up for ta...

Andrew - I've always thought that this is one of the best design ideas I ever had -- so I guess I wouldn't be surprised if it has already been done years earlier. It led logically to the Synchrodyne(TM) engine, which I have so far failed miserably to perfect. I hadn't even considered an acoustic com...

Helical Vane Disk Turbine

Ivar - The idea was to obtain 'auxiliary' power, such as gearing down to drive a hydraulic pump or an alternator. This detail is from the original Cyclodyne(TM) design Production Prototype drawing; but it seemed to me that it might work in pulsejet exhaust streams as well -- perhaps in the exhaust e...

Banning from OT forum

I for one vote against any heavy-handed banning. Why should something valuable or even interesting that someone might contribute be gone forever just because some post a week ago was offensive? Censoring should be done on content, not personality. Yes, of course it's more difficult and time-consumin...

Proposed Design - 'Reflector Bucket' Valveless Pulsejet

This is a re-submittal, for your comments and criticism, of one of my earliest posts on the old forum [posted a couple of years ago for Bruce's amusement; how time flies] -- only, this time, instead of just describing it, I've finally drawn it up. Part of the explosion gases go forward through the v...

Shot of Maggie

Just realized I didn't have a shot of Maggie attached to this thread, and someone visiting for the first time might not even know what we're talking about. So, here's a shot most of you have already seen, just for the rare few who heven't ...

Well, amazingly enough, as viewed from here that actually seemed to work! It came out not as an embedded image, though [like my earlier shot of Maggie] but rather as a 'downloadable' image. Somebody let me know if you can see it that way, too!

For Your Comments & Criticism: Proposed Pulse Turbine

Besides getting your thoughts on this design, this is a try at uploading from my PC here at work. I am not expecting this to work, because I think it will be blocked at the firewall, but we'll see. I'll write a description of the design after I know you can see it, but that may be this afternoon [se...

Re: Opinions Please

Mike - I don't see how they could be too close together. The valve ports on the Dynajet are a small fraction of an inch apart. The main thing is to make sure the total area is what you think is just right [and, of course, that the reeds open sufficiently to get the air in freely]. Big is good, I thi...
