My bad, I was scanning through an array of "Incolloy" alloys, which were all around 10; I assumed.... beggin your pardon. My reference has Inconel 625 at 7.1 (room), 8.8 @1000F. 800HT, 825, 600 and 601 grades are all hovering around 8@room, 9-9.6@1000F. This all begs the question: "How hot is it get...

However, I've had engines that have cracked right in the middle of a rolled stainless tailpipe -- nowhere near the weld -- and that's simply because the constant heating and cooling that takes place while the engine is running, eventually work-hardens the stainless steel to the point where it cryst...

I'm definitely re-thinking my rectangular cross-sections! Another thing is that when these tubes are red hot, they are obviously pretty soft, and not realizing much of their tensile strength (or stiffness: Young's modulus). Forced air cooling has to help, which is why I liked the Foa design, and tri...

Just bell the ends of the intakes (or they won't work)(also looks like they are too long in the rendering), and make as much of the assembly round as you can--and you've got yourself something that should be successful. Here's some flares, Bill. I can't wait to see what it looks like when I make su...

Worlds simplest valveless?
I've been trying to come up with simple ways to try a number of valveless configurations easily, still mimicing SNECMA/Lockwood or Kentfield proportions. I stumbled on the notion that you could make any length and change in volume by squeezing down a piece of tubing just right. When closing it down,...

Accellerate the gas every inch of the way. A cool thought is another scenario where the fuselage acts on all the air around it up to 8 feet and accellerates it rearward through some sort of electro-magnetic process the whole length of the fuselage... Is that not the Holy Grail for which we seek, my...
