Took one fiber out of a sheet of carbon fiber and tried to light it. It didn't burn, melt or oxidize!

Re: DIY high temperature composite pulse jets

Unfortunatly water glass, that is so easy to use, melts already at 1088 C. Not really usable for PJ construction. I would like to experiment with charcoal as construction material. It has a melting temperature of above 3000 C. I have a pottery oven that easely reaches the temperatures needed for car...

"Water glass is a useful binder of solids, such as vermiculite and perlite. When blended with the aforementioned lightweight aggregates, water glass can be used to make hard, high-temperature insulation boards used for refractories, passive fire protection and high temperature insulations, such as ...

Re: More free plans: 40 pound Chinese

I didn't see much if any debri entering the engine, it would almost pause before being pulled into the main exhausting stream. We were already planning to put a thin tube on a smoke generator and use it like they do with cars in a windtunnel, and of course film it at 1000fps. Probably it would give...

Do so. Just start building something simple (from this forum)and start with a simple fuel (propane/butane), that will be your steeper learning curve. Dig the forum :D

Re: Steve's ramjet revisited

I've read it about halfway through, but it's too complex for me to make any sense of. Don’t try to understand the whole paper, just look at fig. 2, 5 and 7. Fig. 2 names the different sizes of a choked ejector, fig. 5 and 7 show the effects of different ratio’s between the sizes. That’s all you hav...

Re: Steve's ramjet revisited

but that also means that the air speed is reduced significantly. The orifice on the ramjet will also have to be a lot bigger. Ha! think so? read this paper: Performance of choked unsteady ejector nozzles Miller.pdf Looks you can even make a oscilating augmentor (ejector), which is of course the opp...

Re: Steve's ramjet revisited

Metiz,

Think about this set up:
PJ - augmentor - ramjet
The augmentor will produce a cooler, oxygen-richer and more constant flow to feed the ramjet.
