Re: re: Candy rocket rules of thumb

Steve, is that a spike nozzle I see on your casing in the video intro picture? Does it work? So far the aerospike has only been tested with compressed air @ 150 psi and that was very impressive! I couldn't believe how much thrust was generated even at such a low pressure. The throat area is equivil...

re: Candy rocket rules of thumb

good question, I haven't been able to find that info on jimmy yawn's site which is pretty much the standard for this sort of thing. for my engine (which I just test fired for the first time this morning!) I made the hollow section in the grains the same as the nozzle throat (3/16). I'm pretty sure t...

Re: re: Schlieren Images for the masses

I've watched Larry's Dynajet in a schlieren setup while he was trying to start it. Every time the engine would burp it looked like an explosion of bubbles coming out of the tailpipe. The synthetic stuff is interesting, but seeing it in real time with your own eyes is incredibly amazing. Larry's mir...

here's the same candle picture with the settings tweaked.

max x and max y displacements = 3

re: Schlieren Images for the masses

here are pics from my latest test. the originals were almost 7mb so they had to be scaled down- i'm sure that probably screwed everything up, but I'd figure I'd post them anyway.

Re: re: Schlieren Images for the masses

Steve, I ran a synthetic schlieren on the pictures. The results are attached. Not that interesting -- there are two features that might be shocks (see density.bmp). that is probably turbulence resulting from the flow seperation at the tip of the nozzle. I'll try to get some better images tonight.

re: Steve's tiger jet

yeah, it is really nice. I can't wait to start playing with the CNC stuff too. BTW, I was pretty impressed with the work you've done on pulsejet/turbine. I'd be curious to know weather it would work with a valveless engine or weather the acoustical interferance with the turbine would be too much for...

Re: re: Hey guys- I'm not dead!!

The only real reason I went to college was girls. Times seem to have changed. I know the feeling. Perhaps I should make myself a T-shirt with the text "I went to college for the girls and all I got was a lousy education"? that's a good one! Actually the male/female ratio at Flordia tech is about 70...

Re: re: Steve's tiger jet

Nice job, Steve. Is the blow tube pointing so that it blows over the holes in the fuel thing? It mught not work if it doesn't. My 1/4-32 spark plug was something like $17, so I'm afraid I won't sell it for $10... oops- It might have been 1/4-32 after all, I'll have to consult the plans again. I gue...

re: Steve's tiger jet

the plans say .15 but .2 would be fine since I'm not that concerned about weight. I probably wouldn't get up the nerve to fly it anyway- it took A LOT of work to make and I'd be afraid of crashing it.
