I am chuffed by the way this thread is developing. It seems to justify the claim I made in my paper on pulsejet history. I wrote: Nevertheless, it is much closer to reality to look at a valveless engine as two different quarter-wave oscillators mounted back to back than as a single half-wave oscilla...

You could see the fuel igniting and spiralling down the tail pipe in sort of a glowing helical 'worm' - and it stuck to the tail pipe walls - dead centre of the tail pipe was completely clear. You can see it in the video that I will try to post.Vid doesn't really clearly show it but you get the idea...

Larry, Do you think this might have a chance? Why, sure. As I said, your problem might be figuring out the starting technique. The reason I say that is that blowing air into a closed flask will quickly result in having it blown back out at you. Some experimentation required. But, you knew that. L C...

It's not that the combusting radicals NEVER make it out the tail end -- just that they don't do it in a single smooth blast. Instead, they get pushed, then they wait, they get pushed some more, then they wait, and so on. A. J. Foa noted this a long time ago in his study of non-steady combustors. He...

Re: deZanin pulse-jets
noclassmac1972, Do you know the complete name of Mr. deZanin and where his business was located? It is Zanin, Jerry, not deZanin. The guy's name was Elio Zanin. He died last year, I think, but the company, Z-Jet, is still doing business, although its chief interest these days seems to be microturbi...

I've got the video downloaded, but can't seem to get it to upload here on this sight. It's nothing but an animation, anyway, not very interesting. It was probably created for the sole purpose of giving a general a woodie in an attempt to get military funding on that particular project. Agreed. The ...

Unfortunately, they have not made the download possible, so that I cannot take it and post it here. It's like YouTube. Maybe if you try it some other time it will work. It opened for me easily. Just a click on the picture... The only thing that I like about the whole sorry Boeing episode is the vind...

Hello. Thanks for the reply. Obviously if such an engine would be adapted to aircraft use, it would have to be a closed loop system with only a small water amount on board. I strongly also belive that the boiler construction could be made reasonably light, so that the overall weight of the engine w...

Everyting, but EVERYTHING can fly
The Owls Head Transportation Museum at Owls Head, Maine, has this contraption in its collection. A sailor was apparently convinced that, what works in one combination of fluids may well work in another. So, in 1928 he built a sailplane powered by, well, sails. A nice dipping-lug sloop rig, even if t...

Personally I think things went downhill after the DEC PDP8 I had to look that one up. I was only 10 at the time. :o) (Damn, you always knew which buttons to press for me. :o) I wouldn't go quite that far -- and I do update my stuff regularly. My software and hardware are always just one series behi...
