Re: using 2 stroke engine's reed valves?

2 cycle engine reed valves will work fine in a pulse jet. You need to make sure your engine is capable of sucking them open because they are often made of thicker metal. The mechanical movement of the piston inside of a 2 cycle engine has more sucking power than our pulse jet engines. I built myself...

Re: Glow plug can start pulsejet?

1968 I had a small hobby pulse jet engine smaller than the Dyna Jet Engine it used a model airplane glow plug to get it started. It had a place on the nose of the engine to connect a model airplane fuel line to a model airplane fuel tank. The engine ran on model airplane fuel. The engine came with a...

Re: Planing for next years speed weekend, (1/2 scale Argus)

You are right about the German V1 using acetylene to get it started but they had a short tail pipe and that made it very hard to start. A removable extension exhaust pipe could be made for the engine to get it started then once the engine starts the extension can be pulled off. The German V1 had 3 a...

Re: Planing for next years speed weekend, (1/2 scale Argus)

WOW....I finally got logged in. Take a look at this video. Notice there is almost no flame coming out of the engine exhaust. All the fuel is being burned inside the engine. All the fuel is producing thrust. It runs most efficient like this and produces maximum thrust. No wasted fuel burning out in t...

Re: would this be possible? A Hypothetical

I have been sick for almost 2 weeks. The doctor gave me some antiobitics that keep me close to the toilet. Two day ago I was feeling better and decided I would make a quick trip out side to my workshop before my next visit to the bathroom. Just as I arrived at the shop I realized I need to run back ...

Re: fuel system

That is not very scientific racketmotorman. I am building a fuel system like the German V1. I have a 100 psi air tank, adjustable regulator, fuel tank, fuel line, fuel injection into the engine. Trial and error so far I only need 20 psi, 1/4" fuel line, .125 orfice with gasoline and a needle valve. ...

fuel system

This is what I am wondering about. Lets suppose I build a 50 lb thrust pulse jet engine and I want it to have a pressure fuel system. What size fuel line does it need, what fuel psi and what size fuel orfice does it need?

There should be a better way than trial and guess.

Re: pulsejet combustion in microgravity

It would be smart to check history to see what experements others have done in the past, which experement won and why. If your trying to win this would be the best way to decide what experement NASA is interested in. You probably don't want to repeat an experement that has already been done unless y...

Surely you plan to test fire your jet engine to make sure things work as planned before you try it on the vomit comit.

Re: pulsejet combustion in microgravity

Hydrogen gas is highly flammable and will burn in air at a very wide range of concentrations between 4% and 75% by volume. Hydrogen gas forms explosive mixtures with air in the concentration range 4–74% (volume per cent of hydrogen in air) and with chlorine in the range 5–95%. The mixtures spontaneo...

/Anders[/quote]i think i found some of the things to build a pulsejet engine… 1. valveless pulsejet engine. 2.high pressure fuel pump. 3.battery. 4.spark plug for ignition system.. 5.a bicycle. i think these are the things needed to make a pulsejet bike..i will surely post a video when iam finished ...

Re: pulsejet combustion in microgravity

If you have an oxidizer and a fuel then you have a rocket engine not a pulse jet.

Re: Planing for next years speed weekend, (1/2 scale Argus)

Thanks, i think i will give your version a try. Do you think i could make the tailpipe 1400mm and then make a slightly larger pipe that's slides over it, so i can try different lengths from 1400mm to 1700mm by just sliding the pipe back and forth? Do you know what frequency its going to operate on ...

Re: Planing for next years speed weekend, (1/2 scale Argus)

You already have a proven design 180 lb thrust engine that works, build another 180 lb thrust engine. 2 engines will give you 160 lbs of thrust. 3 engines = 540 lbs of thrust. 4 engines = 720 lbs of thrust. 5 engines = 900 lbs of thrust. Are you old enough to remember the Saturn 5 project. I believe...
