re: A different type of jetpack
A bit more off topic, check: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=491653&pp=15 http://www.marksparaglidingpages.com/videopop.php?videoid=150 A LiPoly pack + an efficient electric motor would be the way to go if I was to implement a backpack propeller thingy for serious parachute use. Envi...

re: A different type of jetpack
How about... A small pulsejet or two, balanced on an axle, rotating a propeller of some kind? Maybe put the entire thing inside a duct, with propellers/fans on one or both ends of duct? Guiding vanes to make it propel nice and straight? Should also help with the sound and vibration problems a bit, a...

Hmm... to return to topic somewhat. :) Has anyone thought that maybe the "boundary layer effect" some have mentioned is actually a good thing? Kazoo has constant wall area from front to end. Tharratt suggested corrugated intake opening walls to reduce thermal geometry problems. Now, corrugations onl...

Okay! :) Say, something like the design in my line drawing, I'll start with an outer pipe of 6" dia. or thereabouts. In order to follow the specific relations of the Kumar design, CCdia of 165, intake 25, tailpipe 50: The innermost pipe will be 3" dia, so the CC cross-section area in the front will ...

Hmm, would this be the same Kumar as in http://cgpl.iisc.ernet.in/high_int_low_emission_burner.pdf ? Kinda familiar shapes there too! Interesting, they seem to be doing good research in India. Not meaning propulsion, but distributed renewable energy production and such. I hope Europe wakes up someda...

If you wanted to power anything with it, you would have to bend it, or add some kind of a deflector or 'recuperator' to the front. Oh, no worries about that. I would turn the front inside out and just try to keep the areas somewhat right. This would reduce the outer diameter/length ratio, the engin...

Regarding that Kumar thing, I've always wondered why valveless inlets never extend into the CC. Well, apparently some do. Great. Another "original" idea stolen probably before I was born... :) Now... if this design has any ease of starting at all, I think those areas could be where to start with the...

How about the drawing on this site? :) http://www.pulse-jets.com/count/pulse.php?ID=6brunoogorelec wrote: This is the best drawing with dimensions that I have.
It should scale well for a slightly larger version with 3" or 4" dia. cc, don't you think?

Thanks! :) Am I the only one to think that _this_ would be pretty damn easy to implement in pyrex glass, given the everyday tube dims and small size? And then, a slightly larger diameter clear plastic tube to act as a water cooling jacket / shield from shards should the very thinkable happen.. - ville

Oh, I'm not the one after overunity... and I do know how full of shit many alternative "scientific" sites are. However, this Naudin doesn't seem to be a moron, just a bit more enthusiastic than some people can take. At least he has posted his test arrangements and measurements on the web for anyone ...

Re: Comtemporary Sentiments
I proposed the use of Sodium as a fuel source in the 70's, when the depletion of Petroleum became known to me. The engine would be a closed-cycle catalytic reaction. I never worked out any details beyond the fact that a fifty pound engine could generate 450 horse-power. Throttle of the reaction app...

Heh, this is way crazier than my idea of a pulsejet / rocket ice-sledge. A way to get a few km of relatively flat and straight "road" for a slow-accelerating vehicle with low initial thrust. Just secure the track from unsuspecting humans and fire the thing away a couple of times unmanned with a smal...
