re: Pulse Combustion Turbine Engine

Hi Mark
Unfortunately the penalty with no moving parts is the aircrafts airbourne endurance , its all tradeoffs , the greater the complexity generally the lowest fuel burn per unit of power output , and the longer you stay in the air .
Horses for courses :-))

re: Pulse Combustion Turbine Engine

Hi LOL... I hope it made sense , just trying to tell it as I see it :-)) I guess most guys start on PJs initially because of the simplicity of construction then move onto the more complex gas turbines , firstly pure jets then shaft power gas turbines , I'm coming back the other way so will probably ...

re: Pulse Combustion Turbine Engine

Hi Steve Water jackets etc, are generally only another thing to go wrong. Its more the massive amounts of frictional drag that will be the problem , if you workout the surface area of the spike and outer wall together it'll be several times the area of a "normal" exhaust pipe , also the closesness o...

re: Pulse Combustion Turbine Engine

Hi Steve I've had a look at the drawing of your "engine" and if you don't mind I'll add my 2 cents worth . The spike will be almost impossible to keep cool , but I feel its greatest disadvantage is its length and the massive amount of drag created by all that extra surface area , high gas speeds don...

re: Pulse Combustion Turbine Engine

Hi Guys
They've just built a pilot plant here in Oz of a wave generator , its down in Woolongong harbour , big bugger of a thing with the air dispacement driving the turbine both ways

re: REYNST TURBINE CONFIGURATION

Hi Steve Just had a look at the turbine you used, and its a reaction type , I would assume we need an impulse type where there is no change in flow area thru the turbine , hence no need for pressure drop as with a reaction turbine , a PJ doesn't have ( I'm assuming , don't really know) any static pr...

re: REYNST TURBINE CONFIGURATION

Hi Ben Hi Bruno Hi Horace Yep , its me :-)) Thanks Ben , for explaining the freepower , it really is a lot simpler than trying to use a "singleshaft" engine to power a land vehicle , single shaft engines work OK in aircraft with variable pitch props though . The kart produced 160 lbs of pull when st...

re: REYNST TURBINE CONFIGURATION

Hi Guys My names John , live in Australia and have just joined your forum . Having built 2 homebuilt shaft driven gas turbine vehicles in my shed , a bike and a kart , see here, http://www.nickhaddock.co.uk/jetgallery.htm I've recently started work on a simple turboprop using a 1100mm dia industrial...
