Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

It seems as I have to clarify that flattening the engine was no kind of statement or comment to the designer whom we all know, the engine itself performed fine but I had severe problems with the liquid fuelling at the low temps here in Sweden and after X months of testing and a race where the engine...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Frankly I think that I am done with pulsejets, I have started working on a large gas turbine and will most likely stick to turbines from now on. I cannot get my head around all the workings inside a pulsejet and I don´t see much fun in building things that I cannot completely figure out.

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

I´d rather pay the extra buck than having to straighten out work-hardened stainless cones...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ec3TS9RitA What are you trying to say? :? No hidden message, just a more interesting end to the project than putting it on a sheft. It was folded and dented from the rear support and I had no plans to continue working on it. It is also easier to store this way. :mrgr...

Re: axial turbine design

Hi and welcome to the forum! :D Are you saying that you are planning to manifacture a gas turbine with an axial compressor wheel, or an axial turbine and radial compressor (turbocharger compressor wheel)? I really hope that you aren´t going to start your gas turbine career by heading down the axial ...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

A harder track is necessary for any higher speeds with jet propulsion, the slightest resistance and it affects the speed. The fastest run of the weekend was made on a turbocharged Hayabusa, somewhere around 340km/h in top speed but it wasn´t official since the GPS failed to record it. Very impressiv...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Don´t know why it wouldn´t run, perhaps more tweaking time would have fixed the problem but there was no time left for that at the race. As it looks now we won´t race any valveless engines next year, the noice is one reason. The race is held on a lake in a recreational area in the mountains and the ...

Re: Picked up a pair of Schwitzer S500:s today.

Hi Anders 5 bar should have been enough , though when the oil heats up the pressure can often drop alarmingly low :( All part of Rand D Cheers John That could be an explanation, but on the video it can be seen that the pressure gauge is on zero so the pickup must have been sucking air. No leaks in ...

Re: Picked up a pair of Schwitzer S500:s today.

The oil tank was two chevy small block valve covers welded together, and with an oil level below 50% it wouldn´t take much of a bump for the pickup to suck air. The new oil cooler bursted on friday during a test so I had to weld in a bypass tube instead, so oil temps must have been rather high at th...

The ice yacht engine didn´t even resonate during the start attempts, crappy welds might be a reason for it.

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

A summary of the testing we did on thursday, the engine runs hard in the end of the clip.
