I'd like to mention that there are far uglier engines about than that, check out MK's 60mm on valveless forum, sorry MK. My welding is also appalling but my grinding, re-welding and grinding is ok.

Sorry mk, this two stoke business has rather taken over the thread. We should have saved it for the offtopic forum. If anybody has heard of a deisel two stroker then I'd love to hear about it. Less is more for me.

Hearing protection alert!! If your supplying a large quanity of compressed air mixed with fuel directly into the chamber you wont need any valves! These will exit the engine soon enough. If your not supplying enough air then the valves should open alowing mass air to enter and expand. Might be a pea...

Excellent animation, knowing the similarites between 2stoke and pulse combustion engines I have wondered if the carburettor, exhaust and chamber proportions plus ready assembled ignition components could all be used for a pulse jet. I've been waiting for the local kids to dump a doner motorcycle in ...

It's the best civil application for the pulsejet I can think of. Welland G.C. has a rather noisy tow plane and I think the influential residents would prefer short bursts for launches over the extended loop the plane takes. All weight of fuel will be consumed on launch/acceleration and if the engine...

On my budget thrust measurements will comprise of, skateboard, bag of rubbish and the bathroom scales.
Regarding the Tesla jpg that Larry posted, good, thats really good.
Cant find the centre form in a supermarket though.
It's about time for a Rossco update I think.
Regards,
Mike.

Might work in the exhaust, more fresh charge would enter at the exspense of compression ignition , which, has been said here not to be necessary. Has anybody considered a flow rectifier in the exhaust? A valve would work if we were blowing bubbles, but its not worth considering a moving part there f...

Side-effects include negative ionization of surrou...

I dont offer congratulations too freely but think maybe some are due here, youv'e almost created a benchmark engine that will be reffered to for years as long as plenty of folks can actually build it. I hope you havent given up on your original design brief though as the crushed pipe design could be...

Thankyou. I have to rebuild my garage with sound proofing and extraction, and then find ready made components before I can attempt the above but the gas spring should not take long to test. Regarding the reynst jet you posted above I would fit a small forward facing exhuast. If you get more mass out...

I'm a big fan of closed end combustion chambers but I dont think they breath well enough, the Lockwood-Hillier is the best breather I think is possible. Regarding the above some of the vacumn available will suck air/fuel into the exhuast and an unsatisfactory amount of filling is acheived. A relativ...

Good day gentleman, relax and make peace with the day. I took it that Larry was pointing out that most engine builders find lengths that start and leave it at that. He's right to remind us that cold starting and hot running deserve more attention than has been discussed here. He knows the length nee...

Thankyou Larry your recent contributions have been most excellent. I think your absultely right as usual. I have considered using a cardboard ring, possibly in the inlet, to restict the gas flow making the pipe longer in relation to gas mass volume. This would of course burn away allowing more fuel ...

Intake Length.

The only reason the intake needs any length at all is to delay repressurisation of the cc long enough for the vacumn to suck hot gas back up the exhaust. If compression and ignition were replaced by a hot gas sping, possibly a closed end length of pipe, and a shorter intake used then the precious li...

This is good stuff but I'm no nearer to knowing what a theoretically ideal pulse combustion chamber should look like.
With thanks.
