Re: Jet Snowmobile Project/Team
Hi Luc LOL., ...........I must have written "the book" a hundred times with the thousands of replies I've contributed to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DIYGasTurbines/ .......and the http://jetandturbineowners.proboards.com/ I think the "brass vs roller" preference is like Ford vs GM preference , its...

Re: Turbo cylinder?
It won't work :-( The radial compressor wheel is a constant supply device , making it intermittent will probably send it into surge , wrecking the turbo . Also having a "perfect" air/fuel ratio for combustion to occur in the "cylinder" will produce a temperature too high for the turbine to survive. ...

Re: Jet Snowmobile Project/Team
Hi Luc I'll have to disagree about roller bearings being better , the GT6041 is used on a lot of BIG CAT diesel engines of >2,000 hp that vibrate like hell for thousands of hours on end ................the oil damping effects increase life of a turbo , all the huge ABB ship turbos run brass bushes f...

Re: Jet Snowmobile Project/Team
Hi Luc Theres a build Thread on JATO for my GT6041 kart that might be of interest to you ...............http://jetandturbineowners.proboards.com/thread/78/garrett-gt6041-powered-kart . One potential "problem" with GT55 range is the turbine flow , even the GT6041 has to have the larger 1.47 A/R turb ...

Re: Jet Snowmobile Project/Team
Hi Luc Nope , that won't work :-( By splitting the hot gases exiting the flametube into 6 parts , there won't be enough energy going to the one turbine wheel spinning its compressor wheel and attempting to supply air to the combustor , you'd need to blank off the other 5 turbine stages as well as th...

Re: Jet Snowmobile Project/Team
Hi Luc LOL........good to see you getting back into burning kero :-) To answer your questions about Sals design ...... 1 ...........theoretically , yes. 2 ..........no , all turbos will need to be spooled up together , with only one turbo being spooled up the air from its compressor will enter the s...

Re: Almost forgot how fun flying was ...
Hi Luc Going good down here , hopefully my new workshop is being erected this week , and I can get back into the turbine fun again . It certainly helps to have a non threatening examiner when doing your flight test , its stressful enough without them adding an extra layer ..................heh heh ,...

Re: New to jet building, not new to jets. :D
Hi Brady
A 15 inch diameter swing will allow construction of 12 inch diameter cased engines without too many problems , I've even turned up the 14 inch dia wooden pattern for the front cover over a Garrett TPE 331 comp wheel thats ~10 inch diameter
Cheers

Re: New to jet building, not new to jets. :D
Hi Brady For turbine work we need a large diametric swing on our lathes for machining flanges etc , we don't need large centre distances , 900mm is adequate , I've found the 15 inch -375mm swing on my lathe is big enough for what I've been making Theres some very good lathes available at very reason...

Re: Planing for next years speed weekend, (1/2 scale Argus)
You guys have done an amazing job getting such a massive engine up and running , theres always going to be some teething problems when a new engine is first started , just so many things that can go wrong , ..................but ,the basics are now working well , she starts nicely and throttles up a...
