Re: a design question.

Hi Hinote, Because the Intake to tail pipe ratio's would be effectively changed if you just slapped two extra intakes on it.....? Ummm ... the angle of the fangle dangle would be twice that of the aspect of the thrunge guster ratio...? OK ... I am just guessing now....LOL! Thanks for your amusing p...

Re: a design question.

The grins? Because somebody else has an idea to do so :D , but he is not just going to slap on two more intakes. Fedde Again--you're right. All I'm asking for is a discussion of the WHY's on this subject. Reason is, there hasn't been a lot of education about PJ design recently and I think this webs...

I agree, but just for grins (and to edumucate our newbie friend), WHY??

Re: Mike's clock corner

Hi Bill, yep, ceramics are big on my mind, as is thermal compensation of the shoe radius, which is the only dimension I need to stabilize. But first: Tadaaaaaaa! I got it to run all night! The electromagnet drive works great. I'm posting up a video to my youtube channel (belleverman) this morning. ...

Re: Mike's clock corner

I'm working on a mechanical escapement now, but may just throw an electromagnet at it initially to get it sustaining. There's a pretty large bag of options about how to input the energy into your pendulum system. I'd be interested in hearing some of your ideas about the OUTPUT though; my own vary f...

Re: Mike's clock corner

While I'm still in the PJ game, I've been taking some time out to design and build a unique clock. Hi Mike: WOW!!--you've extrapolated the classic kinetic energy/oscillation mechanism into something truly modern. Please accept my congratulations, and my envy at your continuing ability to see beyond...

Re: Steam rocket project

it will be heated by propane from the tube burner that I have yet to weld to the frame. BTW as long as I'm participating in this thread (as a non-expert, please!), I have an observation about your burner: The burner efficiency is probably quite low, because you aren't premixing any air with the pro...

Re: Steam rocket project

I did not expect the significant rise in thrust just from a 30-40°C rise in water temp, otherwise I would have strapped the engine down better and opened the valve from a distance. Next time I run it I will bolt it down to the welding bench. One thing I noticed when the steam jet hit me flat in the...

Re: Steam rocket project

After building a better test bench than the chair I used now and with a pressure gauge fitted I will increase the temp further until I reach 50 bar bottle pressure, the bottle is used to store oxygen so I won´t be anywhere near the rated pressure. Cool! I have 3 things for you to consider: 1. I che...

Re: Steam rocket project

After some test runs I can fit a siphon tube to the conical bottle fitting so it picks up the steam from the far end of the tank to try Hinote´s idea, but my guess is that I will need a different CD nozzle when I go from water to steam. Anders: Don't forget that the static mode and the dynamic (und...

Re: Steam rocket project

Interesting idea Bill, from what I´ve figured out from the few sites I´ve found about steam rockets the nozzle feeds on water from the rear of the tank. Sounds like you've got a handle on what I'm trying to convey. Thanks for participating here! Here's a youtube link to a dragster vehicle with a st...

Re: Steam rocket project

Is it possible (by amateur means) to calculate the expansion nozzle or it trial-and-error the easiest approach since the exhaust jet will be a mixture of steam and boiling water? HI: I haven't posted on this Forum for quite a while. OTOH the steam rocket has been interesting to me from my first dis...

Re: WTF Mate! F/A 18

Hi John There is some stuff about the picture that makes me wonder but I did look on the gold cup racing web site and they did have a display flown by Fa 18s, the vegetation is a problem but we don't know the elevation of the photographer and what f setting he had on or lens, there is a definite 'P...

Hard turn it might have been , but unless one adds in a vertical lift component the aircraft simply drops out of the sky , in a tight turn one lifts the aircraft nose so as to produce that vertical vector of thrust I submit the original photo with slight mods. Assuming the pillar on the hotel is ve...

Hi Viv Hard turn it might have been , but unless one adds in a vertical lift component the aircraft simply drops out of the sky , in a tight turn one lifts the aircraft nose so as to produce that vertical vector of thrust , if you don't, you loose altitude , and if only a few hundred feet from the ...
