Re: metal jam jar experiments
Aw, come on, man, relax. Whay are you so thin-skinned? I did not say you did. I said devoting oneself to research of jam jars without studying Reynst would be reinventing the wheel. You said you did study Reynst. Good! You are nor reeinventing thewheel then. I commended you for that. Jesus, I should...

Re: metal jam jar experiments
No, no, expressing it is not Quixotic, of course. Reinventing the wheel would be. I am glad to hear that you are looking at Reynst. No one else seems to be doing it.

Re: metal jam jar experiments
I'd say it is somewhat Quixotic to dabble at jam jars ith serious intentions without first studying the efforts of F.H. Reynst, the inventor of the jam jar 'engine' and the only man ever to have built it in industrial sizes and studied its functioning in a properly scientific manner. One should try ...

Re: Martin backpack flying machine improves
Just saw your picture of your jet pack! Woohoo - Bruno...really loud, really dangerous...can I have first go? Hahahahaha... Sure. The technology is simple and existing; nothing very adventurous. Just two big pulsejets blowing into a common torus, so that, if one quits, the thrust falls but does not...

Martin backpack flying machine improves
This is beginning to look good:

It is still too bulky.
I am still convinced my two-pulsejet pack with the siamesed toroidal thrust augmenter would beat it. (Though it does look a little too optimistic now in the bulk stakes. )

Not with those Glueys in the back, that's for sure. But, with a very high bypass turbofan, why not?Mike Everman wrote:Pretty sure it wouldn't have attained "flying coffin" status.

Re: Amazing jet gyroplane
Well, even the seller is thankfully aware of that and suggests a thorough re-engineering to anyone who would fly it.

Re: HELP!
Larry, you are right. I posted off the top of my head, what occurred to me as I was reading the question. Lower-half mirror is of course the way to go. As I write this, what occurs to me is an alternative -- a closed-loop helium system in which the central tube is a gas heater and the shielded area ...

Haven't visited in ages, and this is a very pleasant surprise. Great-looking engine. Congratulations!

Re: HELP!
You might consider a transparent zeppelin, with wall panels functioning as lenses to concentrate sunlight onto a tubular central backbone. The central tube, which might also act as a structural member, would function as a ramjet. Air enters the central tube at the nose, gets heated in the tube and b...

I might pop over if I'm not bankrupt by then yet. I'll probably stay in Amersham. Maybe rent a car, but I do dread driving on the sinister side.

Re: Tenney's rotary Dynajet
'Need' misses the point. You 'want' it to pulse. I mean, what's the point, otherwise? You'd just get a primitive turbojet.sockmonkey wrote:Once you have the compressor does it still really need to pulse instead of burn steadilly?

Re: Tenney's rotary Dynajet
Hello again everyone. I was looking at the design and i could just imagine what a compressor on that shaft could do, it would have to be geared to get up to spooling speed, maybe with a planetary gear set. It would essentially be a supercharged pulse jet (hmm i wonder how the cycle would look?) :sh...
