Re: concentric lockwood
If the intake is umbrella shaped, I tend to suspect that thermal distortion would make it hard to maintain the dimensions within running spec., and yes drag, pernicious drag... If instead that represents separate feeder tubes; I would like to see that tried.... While I am trying engines that have ze...

Re: More in the saga of Thermo-Jam ( and other musings )
My brief water comment was not intended to be comprehensive, but thank you for that. My greatest concern with methanol is a steady supply at a low cost. It is for my purposes the ideal fuel. The little glue cans usually run dry, but I have pulled some pretty wet stuff out of some pieces of pipe.... ...

Re: More in the saga of Thermo-Jam ( and other musings )
Multispool; in this case: It comes from my old jam jar formula.... ( follows ) If you have an approximately 2x3 ratio combustion chamber where the 2 is the diameter. then the maximum total port area is .2 x the actual diameter. Somewhat longer vessels still work well with the .2 rule as well. Spray ...

Re: More in the saga of Thermo-Jam ( and other musings )
This last little bit before there is a pause, More of the little glue can that can. Excerpts from a lengthy session, a Best of if you will. http://youtu.be/rOarXR0DWHI Methanol is the fuel. I have some bigger stuff in the works, but most of my time is devoted to my children, ( 4 and 6 years old ) so...

Re: More in the saga of Thermo-Jam ( and other musings )
Well I got a nice long reply written then I fumble fingered it and poof.... Mike; It would be fun to get together some time, time and fuel permitting. If you would like a real portrait of persistence I will post a shot of my scrap pile, If I can stand far enough back to get it all in frame... :) Mar...

Re: concentric lockwood
As much as I love the concept of concentric / annular / coaxial designs they have real major problems Heat being primary. Over heating. Warping. you name it.
I am still trying to make one work well, no luck.
I am convinced that some day some one will make a good one.
Just my .02

Re: More in the saga of Thermo-Jam ( and other musings )
Brief update;
I got some work done this evening/early am on the carburetor for my next test, which will be made of pipe. Took lots of pics.
This next one will not, strictly speaking, be valveless.
More in a wile.

More in the saga of Thermo-Jam ( and other musings )
I suppose I should sort of make this a build thread of sorts, .... over time... For now I will give the preliminary video of some of my recent activities ( some of you have already found the YouTube video ) and some stills of the star of the show. The Video.... http://youtu.be/O7Cceo43MbI <iframe wi...

Re: Any Input?
Just some thoughts from the recesses of my much tortured mind; 1. A Messerschmitt style flame holder may prove to be mandatory, or a corrugated version there of... 2. My work ( so far all failures, as in parts melt... ) with annular designs shows a propensity toward thermal material failure. The ins...

Re: How Can I Make a "Slow and Soft" Sugar Rocket?
A long time ago I tried MSG in some propellant, It burned SLOW. Sadly no notes ( or none that I can find ) survive from that experiment.
It would take some test batches to see if it will work for you. It is however a cheep additive.
Cheers.
