Re: "Jet" pack
I think they have done an impressive amount of work to produce what is arguably a very compact power source (2 stroke V4) and an airframe to take it, what leaps out at me though is all the jetpacks suffer from control instability issues and the only thing to stabilize them is the pilot (and his reac...

Re: Acoustic Length Starting Point on Curved Surfaces
Hi That's a very creative way of solving a problem, I like the use of a liquid piston as it figures in some of the Stirling engine designs I have been interested in for years, I understand the point of a challenging problem and what happens when you solve it, but there is always another one to take ...

Re: Acoustic Length Starting Point on Curved Surfaces
Hi HPSCL (what ever that is) You can take the mean length of the tube as intersected by the curve of the combustion chamber in your example drawing, treat this as the center frequency of the tube for its acoustic resonance, a slight spread ether side of that gives you a broader bandwidth (or wider r...

Re: Odd Metal jars
Hi Joe, personally i set up the cooling so that it would thermo siphon, so i have the cooling pipes- one at the top one at the bottom, i just think its a bit more efficient. great stuff though Matiz :D Viv will recall the tests we did with my version - I did very similar stuff with a syringe and va...

What he said
And use the spark plug that's further away from the valve grid not the nearest one, that will help to make sure you get a good amount of air/fuel mix in the engine before its ignited

Re: Planing for next years speed weekend, (1/2 scale Argus)
Hi Linus I think John is perfectly correct and has hit the nail on the head, the air jets are on the wrong side of the valve grid and are not atomizing the fuel correctly and pushing it far enough down the combustion chamber, the fact that the nearest spark plug to the valve grid works best would te...

Re: Planing for next years speed weekend, (1/2 scale Argus)
Hi Linus My first impression is how "soft" the first ignition pulse sounds, its a puff out of the exhaust pipe not a bang, lets see what other people think of that observation? ? what is happening at the valves when the engine fires? does any backfiring happen at the inlet at all? ? did you test the...

Hi John
I think we should advise them to step up the ear protection to ear plugs and ear protectors as well I am not sure a cod peace would be out of the question ether!

Its definitely starting to get an awesome look about it I was just looking at it and wondering about the sound pressure and how it was going to impact the rider? the exhaust is going to be pretty close to his dangley bits

Re: Basic Gasifier Build
Hi Joe Ok it will be fun to see if it starts chuffing like the old one again, by the way do you have any way to get an idea of what temperatures you are seeing in the gasification zone in the combustion chamber? also I was thinking off the hook a bit about if a car air mass sensor could be used in s...
