Welcome!
Yes, they will self sustain. That's the whole idea of a pulse jet.
(could you please ask beginners questions in the beginners thread above? thanks)

Jerry,
I wish you luck ! and the discovery of the actually easy use of a digital camera, and the joy of instant availability of photo's made.
Hopefully you have the cable to connect it to your computer. If you have your camera will just act as a memory stick or an external drive.

Re: Ceramics
Google-ads came up with some interesting site with info about ceramic and carbon materials and their properties:
http://www.kompozitum.sk/en/index.php?id=4
I must have somewhere more about properties of different ceramics.

If you remember having more about ceramics in this thread, can you copy it to the ceramics thread?
Thanks.

Re: Ceramics
I just noticed Resbond 940LE might be a good candidate to use with my quartz tubing, There aren't many materials that have a lower thermal expansion rate that quartz/SiO2. Think about a spark plug having metal and ceramic in a tight fit together. They would have to expand at roughly the same rate I...

Ceramics
Hello all,
Since every once in a while somebody asks or writes something about ceramics, I thought it was time for a central topic about this theme.
Mike, can you make it a sticky one?

Re: DIY high temperature composite pulse jets
I don't (yet) intend to use carbonfiber for construction, I just took a single fiber because I wanted to test carbon's resistance against oxidation at high temperatures. A thin fiber is a perfect test object for that. However I could use carbonfiber and use caramel as a bonder (and carbonize it by h...

Re: DIY high temperature composite pulse jets
I'm thinking the proces that is used to spray or damp metals on surfaces and use chrome. The chrome might come close to it's melting temperature due to the isolation qualities of charcoal, but no mechanical strenght is required of the chrome coating. Or just a galvanic process? After all carbon is ...

Re: DIY high temperature composite pulse jets
Hmm, would the object stay intact if one washes out the Na2CO3 with water? Leaving a quartz spunchy structure?
