Backing up what Larry said the retainer has to have a curve in it rather than a bend. I found a retainer like yours would stop a working proved design from running but returning to my curved retainer would make it work again.

I don't think it will be hot enough. My 2" valveless only needs a tiny shot of air from a bike pump to get it started but still needs a spark even when glowing red hot.
