re: Motorjet

Hi Matt,

Anodizing is for aluminum.
Black oxide is for carbon steel.
There is a black oxide process for stainless steel. ( expensive )

As for protection at pulsejet temperatures, I doubt that it would make much difference, but it might be worth a try.

Hi Jim,

Soft seat for valves ? NOT !!!!!!

The sealer is a water based silicate binder containing ceramic and iron powder.

When it hardens, it's " harder than a whores heart ".

Hi J,

If You use a lap joint ( overlap 1/4" ) You will find it much easier to weld without burnthrough. A chill bar on the backside of the weld works very well also. (copper or aluminum)

re: Plugging the gaps...

Hi, TIG welding: The hole problems are primarily a function of linear travel control and puddle dynamics. I always use a minimum of 2.75 diopter magnification when I weld to make the puddle most visible. There is a natural tendency to increase the travel speed when it appears that the weld puddle is...

Hi,

2 Lb. of air/sec.=100 lb. thrust

Dynajet static example:

0.08 lb. X 1000 fps. = 80 ft. lb./sec.

80/550 = 0.15 Hp. ( static )

re: Bugatti fun facts

Hi, According to Irwin E. Treager ( aircraft gas turbine engine technology ), thrust in pounds = horsepower at 375 MPH. ( speed of aircraft ) So static thrust equates to zero horsepower. Hp = net thrust X velocity of the plane / 550 ( fps ) Book example: 4000 Lb. thrust X 375 mph. / 375 mph = 4000 H...

Hi,

This is what a set of reeds look like after about 30 seconds on propane !!
The cooling produced by liquid fuels is quite pronounced.
Methanol or ethanol gives excellent cooling and reed life.

re: What marketing execs hear when engineers talk

Hi kid jansen, My presentations were thoroughly understandable to all present, except the marketing group, who refused to take the time to develop even a rudimentary understanding of the principles involved. When I tried to engage them in conversation, they said that they didn't need to know the tec...

re: do compressor wheels "explode"?

Hi,

The 30-06 is the most useful cartridge.

110 grain @ 3500+ FPS for varmints, up to 220 grain @ 2500+ FPS for very large game, with excellent ballistic performance throughout.

re: do compressor wheels "explode"?

Hi Zippiot,

The smaller calibers do travel at very high speeds. A .22 Cal. can be loaded to provide over 3000 F/S. with a 53 grain bullet, providing over 1000 Ft.Lb. of energy. ( centerfire )

Hi Zippiot,

The 45 ACP service round is 850 F/S and 400 Ft.Lb. of energy.
It is subsonic at 0.8 mach.

Hi, The entire subject matter and narrative is jargon. The point of the video was to simulate what someone from marketing might hear when an engineer uses technical terms that the marketing person does not understand. I have worked in engineering, and have made presentations that I swear were probab...

Hi, Around 15 ma. and your muscles contract ( can't let go !!! ). At 60 to 100 ma. ventricular fibrillation keeps the heart from pumping properly. ( no pump, no live !!!! ) The voltage involved is inconsequential, as long as it is enough to result in the above current flows. I use, and recommend, a ...
