Power source

Hi,

I am using a Miller 225 AC welder set to the 40 AMP. tap as a power source. Any AC welder can be used, but a welder this size will have
a 100% duty cycle at this setting.

Coils

Hi, The coils are mounted concetrically ( the small inside the large ) The inner coil is made from 1/8" copper tube wound around a 1 1/4" form; the outer coil is made from 1/4" copper tube wound around a 2 1/4" form. The inner coil can be made from heavy copper wire #8 or #10. I used tube since I ha...

Coil polarity

The polarity of DC applied to the coil doesn't matter, unless You have a dual coil setup with the secondaries in series yielding the sum of the coil voltages. Theoretically, electron emission is improved if the center electrode on the spark plug is negative. In actuality, there is very little eviden...

Cheap ignition

It is amazing how creative You can become as You survey Your pile of
burned out 2N3055"s and NE555 solid state components.
I'll leave the HV and hi power stuff to the experts.
Here is an expert circuit that I may try. ( am I masochistic ? or what ? )

simple cheap ignition

After having failed at building a bulletproof, solid state ignition system, I went to a simple and cheap alternative. I found an old weedwacker in recycling, and disassembled the unit to get the flywheel and ignition coil. The automobile scrapyard yielded a heater blower motor. I mounted the flywhee...

TIG welder

The following diagrams show the essential circuitry that I used to build My homebrew TIG welder. All electronic parts are available from www.hosfelt.com The ignition transformer is P/N 2e507 from http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/start.shtml Please note that the resistors are made from lower watt...

Wow I can't......

The parameters I listed are for a rectified sinewave, DC power source. My welder is home brew and takes a 40 Amp. AC input @ 80 volts, rectifies to DC and superimposes the HF using the typical spark gap circuit and a coupling coil. Current control is totally adjustable, resistively. I have an analog...

Things in the intake

I think He was asking if the PJ is sensitive to having
something placed in the intake tract; like a small tube or nozzle.
How is the operation of the PJ changed or disturbed?

Welding thin stainless

For .024" stainless, You want 20 Amps. with a travel rate of 21"/min. Straight argon at 6 to 8 CFH flow, and .040" ceriated tungsten elctrode. If You overlap the sheet at the joint, You can melt back the edge of the sheet to get a filler rod effect, leaving the inside of the joint clear of any melt ...

Electrochemical drilling

A fine glass tube carries the electrolyte to its tip, where the erosion takes place. The diameter of the outside of the hole will drill a hole that is slightly larger than the glass tube. The usual electrolyte is salt that is dissolved in water. This is used to drill multiple fine holes in jet engin...

Spark plugs

Mark, The center electrode of a spark plug is usually bulged to prevent blowout. You can't pull it out. Some electrodes are welded ( two different steels ). Spark plugs in the 1950's suffered from electrode blowout, so the manufacturers made the lower portion of the center electrode larger in diamet...

small sturdy drills

For starting small holes, I recommend using a combined drill and countersink ( centerdrill ). The body is larger in diameter than the drill, and eliminates deflection. The centerdrill can be used to drill through thin materials, up to the length of the drill tip. Manhattan Supply Corp. ( MSC ) Part ...

Small drills

Small diameter drills should be run at high RPM to improve the relative " stiffness factor " which helps to reduce deflection ( bending ) and will help to reduce excessive breakage. For drilling with a #60 HSS drill: Machining Data Handbook recommends about 5,700 RPM and a downfeed of about 0.0005" ...
