Re: Schlieren Images for the masses
(3) Convert the images into 24-bit color BMP files and xor the bits of the images. The changes in density of the air will move the dots of the mask a little to the left or a little to the right and when xored, it causes the dots to become darker or lighter. I am trying to generate an image showing ...

Steve's tiger jet
I have finished all the machining for the engine, but I still need to buy some .15 inch stainless for the tailpipe. the fuel injector assembly has been modified to make it much more robust and the cowl has been eliminated, other then that, everything is pretty much to spec. as you can see, I am enjo...

do you suppose that this could be used in a hybrid rocket engine?Mark wrote:Another spontaneous combustion mix is the pool chlorine product sold at most stores. Mix it with any kind of oil and it will burst into flames readily.

That's a pretty high expansion ratio. What propellant and operating pressure is it designed for? the expansion ratio is high because I am not too concerned with thrust at this point, but I would like to see some mach diamonds! It looks like I will be using KNO3 +sugar. as for operating pressure, I ...

As far as i know, its the only proven runner truly without welding, unexpected compexities, or experimentation to get it running. (Which can require a lot of knowledge, understanding and tooling) Rossco don't forget mark's pipe fitting mini logan. there have been three sucessfully built so far. all...

Neat videos, Steve. Did you ask how the catalyst was set up, or what it was made of? Was the pulsation because of the gravity fed "fuel", or was it intentionally modulated? He had several types of catalyst, but silver and platnium were used most often. they were in the form of an extemely fine (and...

:) Go with the sugar and KNO3 I have had quite a bit experiance with working with the traditional blackpowder and the sugar, KNO3 engines. Yes the sucrose propellant is a bit slower but that is no problem if you just increase the core depth. If you use a ratio of about 70 parts KNO3 and 30 parts su...

I will probably be making some solid fuel engines as well using KNO3 and sugar. I have machined these over the last two days.
