Dyna-Jet Doctorate in engineering

Hi, Gang, In 1947 or thereabouts, a PhD candidate earned his degree by studying and explaining the workings of a Dyna-Jet. With Bill Tenney's help and work by experts at Pyrex, a transparent pipe assembly was created. It ran for long enough that the student was able to explain the D-J. Can anyone ou...

Re: Quartz

Guys, I've been trying to locate information on a Pyrex/quartz combustion pipe for a Dyna-Jet. I was told about it by Bill Tenney in 1951 but the successful work was done earlier, perhaps 1947, for a PhD candidate. I've brought up nothing on the internet. Can anyone aim me in the right direction? I'...

Re: Quartz

Hi, Guys,
Can anyone guide me to information on a PhD being awarded (in 1947?) for a disertation on a Pyrex Dyna-Jet? Bill Tenney told me about it in 1951 but I can find nothing about it. (NYU, I think.)

Re: Dyna-Jet book

Hi, Gang, Mike Everman has stated his preference for soft cover, conventionally-bound copies of this book rather than loose-leaf versions. Please let me know if any potential buyer has a similar preference. I'll put in orders of whichever folks want. However, it is possible I can get both versions i...

Dyna-Jet book

Hi, pulse-jet fans, I have an update on my book about the Dyna-Jet: the printer/editor/consultant has most of my text (77,000 words,) and illustrations (128,) and is getting ready to run a copy for my finalizing. These last few steps may take several months but I hope to have copies for distribution...

Re: "days of speed and thunder"

Guys,
I'd very much like to attend and mingle with all of you but I can't. Time & financial limits make it very unlikely.
Maybe next time.

unknown pulse-jets

Hi, Gang, I've not been able to attach a photo of my unidentified p-js until now. I have help. Do any of you know what the attached pictured engines are? Thje bottom two are about D-J size snf the others are smaller. The Shorter one uses a conventional Daisy-bloom reed valve while the top one employ...

Brauner

I've been told I have one of the later Brauners. Who designed it, who made it, and when and where was it made?
Thanks.

Re: Dyna-Jet story

Mark, There were many small p-js that originated in Europe but most were based on the Dyna-Jet. Deco, Juggernaut, Panorama, Super Tigre, Zanin, a Soviet design, and several others come to mind. All appear to have come out after the Minijet (1946,) and Dyna (also first offered in 1946.) I know of non...

Re: Dyna-Jet story

Mark, The page 82 article you mentioned in Popular Science magazine also shows Charles B. Marks. He is holding the air pump (NOT a bicycle pump but one intended for auto tires.) He was the man who came up with a working, miniature p-j. Bill Tenney had nthing to do with it, initially, but was also bi...

valved pulse jet engines & people

Hi, Gang, I'm still hoping to learn about all the p-js that have been marketed, especially valved designs. Who designed the Minijet, Brauner, Juggernaut, & the other 75 types? I know all about Marks & Tenney and their Dyna-Jet but have little on most others. My D-J story is in the hands of Scott Tro...

Re: Dyna-Jet story

Mike, We've not discussed my stuff as an e-book, mostly because I'm a "hands-on" type. When reading, I prefer to have the text in my hands; I must admit I don't have a working computer at home. I chose a plastic ring binder for my scribblings because of all the pictures they contain. Scott can suppl...

Re: Dyna-Jet story

Hi, People, The text for my Dyna-Jet story is now in the hands of Scott D.Trostel. He will organize everything & insert my pictures when he's ready, perhaps next month. Scott has written and published 5 or more books on railroads, including last year's "Lincoln's Inaugural Train." It's worth noting ...

Dyna-Jet story

Hi, Gang, I'm finishing up my D-J book and am seeking information on how many I might be able to sell at $50 ea. It will contain about 120 pages of text and about 120 pictures. I'm expecting to turn over the project (next week,)to a nearby publisher/editor for printing and need some idea as to how m...
