re: Creating the valve plate disc?
This is the one in Acton: http://www.applegate.co.uk/company/13/33/852.htm but they are all over the place. Their website doesn't seem to list the UK stuff any more.

re: Creating the valve plate disc?
You can turn big diameter stuff on small lathes if it doesn't fit in the chuck. Metal Supermarkets in Acton hold 12" diameter aluminium and I'd get them to cut a slice a few mm thicker than you need. To mount it in the lathe you need to make a mounting jig that fits into the chuck and you bolt the v...

re: Another not working pulsejet.
Backing up what Larry said the retainer has to have a curve in it rather than a bend. I found a retainer like yours would stop a working proved design from running but returning to my curved retainer would make it work again.

re: ignition problems
You need basically what is in this picture: http://www.boomerangracing.com/Battery_Coil_and_Spark_Plug_lead_6-4-04.jpg An ignition coil off a car, a 12V battery and an HT lead for the sparkplug. Ground the (-) of the battery with the (-) terminal on the coil and the outside of the sparkplug. Place t...

I HATE ProE and most of the guys I've worked with in engineering hate it too. Autocad isn't great but it's a lot easier.

Yes, that's mainly what I was worried about. I might weld a couple of old ones into some sheet and see what happens.

Welding sparkplugs
Being as I have now run out of nuts with a sparkplug thread in them and I can't warrant buying a tap for the little pulsejet work I do, will welding a sparkplug into the hole kill it? I'm not talking about decent models here, just rough mockups in mild steel where a spare BP6 lying around on the gar...

re: quick question
I don't think it will be hot enough. My 2" valveless only needs a tiny shot of air from a bike pump to get it started but still needs a spark even when glowing red hot.

re: JET FUEL-No, unfortunately not Moonshine!
Yes, fresh oil is very similar to diesel calorifically and most diesel engines will run perfectly on fresh or used filtered oil. It is a lot more viscous so you have to be sure your fuel pump is up to the job and be aware that a lot of newer 'common rail' diesel engines will get damaged by the thick...

re: Prettiest FWE (?) - the 'Lady Anne Boleyn'
Hi Larry, I've made a few bits and pieces in the past using a similar slightly cruder method. You're right, it can't go very far without work hardening and splitting. You have to apply heat while you work it, r at least work it a bit, anneal it and start again. Forgot to mention if you cold form it,...

re: Pulsjet temperature and casted valve head
You have a lot of cold air flowing through the valve head and that usually keeps it cool enough during operation. My main problem has been when it's glowing red hot and you shut it off, that's a lot of heat that soaks into it, so cooling fins won't go amis on a jet of that size. However, saying that...

re: Defence Systems and Equipment International 2007
I'd love to get along to one of these one day as it's just on my doorstep but I don't think it's actually open to the public. The press usually show a few shots from inside, but usually the news story is because of protestors.
