Hi all,
I was just wondering if an of you have built a turbocharger-turbine using two turbocharges in series (tandem) to get higher pressures, etc.
Like a multi-stage commercial yet.

re: Forum Chinese Contest
Rules, rules
Its thrust for fuel thats important, not thrust for size.
just go for max specific thrust,
provided you can carry the engine to the comp. meet location ;-)
And remove the chinese limit. Any new valveless (i.e. not lockwood etc)
Then we'll just be back to the old "forum" rules.

Oh John, you make me feel so normal! (and jealous) That bike is amazing. how long did it take to build? Re the pulsejet, I get the feeling they are more to do with poressure impulses than large amounts of gas flow, so may not be suitable. I'd guess you would need some form of chamber to spread the p...

Mike, you are a God!
Now for the really hard bit.
Can you put a T or Y junction, so that one pipe can feed into two? or more?

re: A New Friend and a New Lady
Hi Ed, I can offer just one piece of info. The colour of the flame indicates its temperature. I can't remember the exact figure now, but lets say its about 2100K If the intake temperature is 300K, then the combustion raises the temperature by a factore of 7:1. If it burns fast enough to achieve this...

re: Johanssons Jet-Cart
Hey John, If I made something similar and used a freepower turbine to drive a propellor, I could presumably replace my 50 HP rotax on the gyro. Or I could make several and push them through the one freepower. Two of the issues with multiple engines for light aircraft ( a gyrocopter) is that more par...

Hi Eric, I see your point about the "shaped-charge" effect. could be very interesting. I'll need to let it sink in for a while. (Maybe you could offset them a little and get a swirl effect to improve mixing, or somesuch.) Thats definitely a large combuster and a small tube. On the plus side it shoul...

turbines, turbines, and turbines.
Pity about the cost, and the maintenance, and the frailty etc.
All those moving parts. The lack of design elegance, and build simplicity.
Far too practical.

re: UFLOW trainer VPJ
Actually, I think the simulation is better if you reduce the length of segment 2 to 0.01 m. This puts the combustion very near the intake, which corressponds to where fuel/air mix is sucked in, and would combust, and so would be more consistent with the next cycle. Its a bit harder to understand tho...

Its the file thformat that UFLOW1D reads/writes. If you can get it downloaded as Best[1].IMM Then start up Uflow1d.exe Use file - Open to open Best[1].IMM. Then, click on the Contour tab to see the minimalist engine design. (Combustion is designed to occur about 1/5 the way along, in section 3) Use ...

re: UFlow progress
Excellent stuff Larry, I think I'll be looking for a copy RSN. I think you have confirmed my view of an old argument, several years back. People used to talk a log about hot slugs of gas moving throught the engine, and I would argue that it is really a pressure wave moving through the gas. The press...

Hi Eric, I guess a 5/8 hole would be just about perfect, seeing as you have one already, and I have no other guidance. What diameter is the chamber that the hole goes into? The ratio of areas is probably the important thing. Responding to you comments and diagram about two intakes , or a resonance t...

Eric,
good one.
I'll reply in the non-Eric the half a BCVP thread
