re: Uflow assisted PJ design

Tank's upright, vapor feed only. And yes, you're right, the tank would empty pretty quickly if the TSFC was 4. I really need to measure the flowrate. Audio waveform display is attached. Upon looking at it, the operating frequency seems to be around 131 Hz. It appears that every other wave represents...

re: Uflow assisted PJ design

BTW, I've done some experimenting with the inlet of this motor, slightly altering inlet length as I experimented with different flares and bellmouths on the inlet. The Overall length as shown in the video is 1899 mm. I rechecked the combustor diameter and it is exactly 97.5 mm (previous numbers were...

re: Uflow assisted PJ design

Here's the promised video of my new engine. I've designated it the R1. The engine is being operated on propane vapor. My fueling setup uses a ball valve (wide open) in series with a needle valve to control flow. The ball valve is for safety so I can instantly shut off any motor under test if it flam...

re: Uflow assisted PJ design

Bill, Your comments are not at all an invasion! And your critiques are most helpful and appreciated. I could not have done this without all your help! And you are right about the length. I made a mistake in my post; the engine OAL is 1.98 meters, not 1.8 meters (didn't have matls w/ me when posted)....

re: Working together for the better (Injector Ideas and Test

Hi Mikail, I don't really have anything to add at this time other than to say that your new injector will work well in operation as long as the flow is adjusted to suit the motor size. You've got a good design there! By sizing it properly you can control the feed pressure needed to achieve the flow ...

Uflow assisted PJ design

I have now tested my first Uflow-assisted design of a valveless pulsejet. It is an Escopetta variant, with an approximately 97mm diameter combustor and an OAL of approximately 1800mm. The basic design parameters are the result of some recent research and testing, and I used Uflow to examine the prop...

Re: Working together for the better (Injector Ideas and Test

So today I made my first prototype injector and ran some tests (none actually on a jet, yet). My injector is a simple radial injector with variable cross-section. I have provided a rough diagram and a couple pictures along with a video of it in action (Video is to big so I will cut it down and post...

Re: re: Prettiest FWE (?) - the 'Lady Anne Boleyn'

If you like, I could work up a little sketch of what I use for temps in the model, so you could judge how much of it is wishful thinking, or even pure hogwash. For temps, I really have nothing to go on except "TLAR" and what I've used in previous examples. But, I get running engines. They just alwa...

Re: re: Tailpipe aspect ratios

ha ha, sounds like Dave hase been talking to me! ;-) Ha Ha, no way Mike, you've never BS'd me! You're a straight shooter! Richard Feynman used to (tacitly) brag about his ability to explain certain concepts in very simple terms because he understood them so well, and then he complained when a repor...

re: Tailpipe aspect ratios

Excellent Post, Bill!

Thank you very much.

Very clearly stated. I appreciate this because I have found that people who can't give clear explanations often don't understand matters as well as they pretend.

Keep up the good work!

You're right, Hagen, it's definitely an easy test. I'll try it and let you know the results. Thanks for the suggestion!

Nope.

Yeah Mike, I thought you'd be happy. It means that elaborate headplate die-set you made wasn't for naught.

Thank Bill! He designed the fix, I just made it.

I can't really address that issue, since I'm not the one who made those claims.

re: Revisiting Kentfield engines

UPDATE on the Mini-Kenny project. Bill Hinote kindly emailed me with a suggestion for improving the Mini-Kenny thrust output and reducing the TSFC, that would not require me to cut the engine apart or make any permanent alterations to the motor. This involved sticking a set of temporary inserts into...
