Re: Lockwood Hiller pulse jet rules of thumb?
Yes you are correct, I was thinking way too complicated. I made a drawing to clarify things. The flare should be a bell mouth, not just a 45 degree cone. Also, do not just start adding lengths of pipe; stick to the plans.

Re: Lockwood Hiller pulse jet rules of thumb?
Pretty sure R.25 refers to "radius 0.25" which would mean that your radius is 3.52/2=1.72
1.76*0.25=0.44
1.76+0.44=2.2
That means the intake measures 2.2" across from your flare. I suggest also cutting the engine down to size and using the correct diameters

Re: Lockwood Hiller pulse jet rules of thumb?
Maybe the ball valve is restricting flow? Just running it from the tank should be enough to really get it going.

Good job! Try flaring the intake and don't use a gas regulator

Good stuff! Next time try giving it more fuel, you've barely got it idling. You can get a digital crane scale from ebay for like 10 dollars

Re: Please put your "I am new and need help" question here.
Hey! I'm new and I need help. I'm making a Lockwood pulsejet as my high school senior project and I need specific guidance. The actual design of the jet isn't the problem --I plan on using the Lockwood Patent design-- but I need help learning how to assemble it and where and how to buy/make all the...

I'm afraid he won't answer. This place has been dead for a while and Eric hasn't posted for years. He used to have a website, Becktechnology, but that site's long gone too. He has a youtube channel. Maybe if you send him a pm through there he could reply.

Re: Plumbing Pulse jet stalling
Are you using a regulator on your propane bottle? As a rule of thumb: if you think you have too much gas, you don't have nearly enough.
What type of fuel injector are you using and how far down the intake is it?
Is your engine build from known plans (i.e., the pipewood/ ugly stick?)

Re: Lockwood Hiller pulse jet rules of thumb?
Hi! It might be a good idea to use Pyro's recipe for beginners for your first engine (it's for valveless engines). That lockwood engine is pretty crappy. For your first attempt, try making a linear engine. They are the most easy to do and easy to start. When you get bored of it, you can have it cut ...

Re: Please put your "I am new and need help" question here.
Hi, welcome to the forum! I've been reading your questions and I have some feedback. Fair disclaimer: I have never worked with an ugly stick. In your first post you describe you get a pop or two but mostly yellow flames from the exhaust. To me that sounds like your ignition isn't up to scratch. init...
