Re: re: Pulse jet silencer?

Tribal knowledge will tell you that it won't work on a conventional PJ. The exhaust pipe needs an open end to function; one that does not diminish the pressure pulse. That's not to say that you can't get some muffling before you move it too close and it kills. Augmenters are the best you can do, th...

Re: re: Titanium Weirdness

Stuart, I think the temperature is low enough for it to be ok for conrods and pushrods. It seems a common thing to do is nitride the surface which increases its hardness and prevents the oxidation. Billet titanium rods are quite common though. Oh, I'm sure con rods are great in titanium, it was rig...

Re: Titanium Weirdness

Anyway, I just thought this would be an interesting thing to report. It turns out that even Ti alloy (at least THIS alloy) would be pretty poor as a structural element deep inside a pulsejet. Note that this effect was the result of seconds of exposure to the engine gasses, not minutes or hours. L C...

Re: re: Aluminum combustion chamber

allright well I guess I will have to go ahead and roll a combustion chamber cone out of steel. Has anybody ever calculated what type of force is being exerted on the walls of the chamber? Most pulsejets are showing a peak to trough fluction of 2 atmospheres (30 psi. Most failures that have been doc...

Re: Electronic fuel injection Help please

Hello everyone. Also I was thinking about using an air hose to pressurize a container full of fuel instead of using an electric fuel pump, but I'm a little concerned that it might just turn into a big grenade, and I want to be safe. Oh... the thougt occured to me to use some sort of plastic bag to ...

re: A Rainy Day Makes for Inset Intake Success

To add to what I just said, if the inlet is too long, you don't get an eddy current, but you do get a capacitance. That's why the front end of your pjet is cold. Draw what you thing the flow looks and you'll see what generally is the case is that you want close to an integral step, just like the vor...

Re: re: A Rainy Day Makes for Inset Intake Success

I just don't see a "node" situation, within the combustion chamber itself. And this means that moving the end of the intake around inside the CC isn't going to change things a lot. Again, any other opinions? Bill H. Acoustic Propulsion Concepts ".......some day soon we'll be flying airplanes powere...

Re: re: Contact Bruce Simpson ??

But, it's not enough to get him off the hook. As that USA official said, "Mr. Simpson was playing with fire..." He got burned pretty badly. He should have known better. He should never have done the missile thing. Everyone knew it at the time but him. Bruce is a horses ass as far as I'm concerned a...

I calculated one time that if the earth were the size of a basketball, Mount Everest would rise to the dizzying height of .003 inch above mean sea level. Re: re: Turboprop PJ experiment update

Yeah, Jonny, that's what I want to do, make an atomizer that uses propane as the driving gas. Like an air-brush tip or other paint sprayer. Maybe a smallish propane cannister could be talked into delivering quite a lot of gasolene. Yes, I think that is really a practical way to go, especially if th...

Re: Increasing tipjet economy

The tipjet (ramjet version) method has been generally frowne upon due to the poor fuel economy. My question is this: Would it be possible to spin the ramjet faster than Mach 1? Here's the idea. -Don It's possible, but you are fighting a number of problems. One is that the centripetal acceleration i...

. I made a couple of simple rigs for home, though, let's see if I can find photos. Basically some wood and a bottle jack you can get for under $20 at home despot. Thanks for the pics. I don't have access to a press, so I do my pipe squashing with a sledge. It isn't pretty. You've given me some ideas.

Re: re: A New Friend and a New Lady

Hi Ed, I can offer just one piece of info. The colour of the flame indicates its temperature. I can't remember the exact figure now, but lets say its about 2100K If the intake temperature is 300K, then the combustion raises the temperature by a factore of 7:1. If it burns fast enough to achieve thi...
