Re: Turbine Idea...

Hi Dave

Why don't you use the radial inflow turbine wheel as is ??

My latest creation ....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Y8jpaDTkEY has one :D

Re: Turbine Idea...

Hi Dave

Theres plenty of small axial turbine wheels available in the UK , no need to go to the trouble of modifying a radial one , have you checked out the GTBA ??

Re: Turbine Idea...

Hi Dave Duhhh............LOL...I really should pay more attention to what I'm doing  , .......................There are some radial turbs that are "mixed flow" in that they're got a part axial component and are being used in high pressure ratio turbos , but converting a radial turb into an axi...

Re: Turbine Idea...

Hi Dave Very little chance of it working as an axial stage ..............there needs to be work added to the air for compression to take place , the centrif. comps inducer is designed to produce the least amount of disturbance to the incoming air until it is well and truly "captured" within the blad...

Re: FD3/64-2:1!

Hi Anders The "bent" inducer vanes reduce shock losses by "capturing" the incoming air as smoothly as possible before it is "worked upon" by the comps blading , it is possible to run compressors without "bent " inducers, but the efficiency is pretty bad . The actual mass flow from a comp is a produc...

Re: FD3/64-2:1!

Hi Axel I log in every few days to keep an eye on your progress, its been an interesting build , always nice to see some original work :-) Your compressor wheel must be very "flexible" to have such good low speed performance ,............. I have a lower limit of ~25,000 rpm for my 141mm dia comp , ...

Re: FD3/64-2:1!

Hi Axel Very impressive video :-)) 14K is a pretty low rpm for such a large engine , 590C is a reasonable temperature considering all the parameters . You should feel proud of her , quite an achievement ....................LOL....that thin turbine wheel worries me a bit though  Could you also...

Re: FD3/64-2:1!

Hi Anders With low pressure ratio combustors they certainly need to be larger , combustors are compared by their "combustion intensity " .....BTU's / cubic foot/atmosphere/hour , so if the "atmospheres" ie pressure , is low , then the cubic feet need to be greater to compensate . The engine shouldn'...

Re: FD3/64-2:1!

Hi Anders LOL........just a case of flowing sufficient air and accelerating it , but there are some engine weight "problems" once the size increases ...............probably better to have a gas producer feeding a freepower with its own larger fan to move the greater mass rather than relying on the e...

Re: FD3/64-2:1!

Hi Anders 500 lbs of thrust isn't out of the question :-)) ............pretty crappy fuel burn rate though with such a low pressure ratio :-(( .............better to hunt around for a really big turbo rotor from an industrial sized diesel that can be spun up to produce some serious pressures . . Hav...

Re: FD3-64 casing question

G'day Tim

Totally agree with you about his formulii . Kamp's book is a little easier to understand I feel, but even his reasoning is a little vague at times .

Where abouts are you here in Oz ??
