Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Dear Johanssen and Viv, Viv I'm sorry I forgot to suggest a collins collar also, how embarrassing, it would also be a very good option to experiment with, something to investigate further on thunderchine for sure. Johanssen one of the things that can be a problem when attempting a vapour coil is del...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

There is no attitude and I wasn't intending for it to sound like there was any. You are free to make your own decisions, however what I'm supplying is advice from someone who has years experience liquid fueling these engines. M and I have both suggest the best means by which you can achieve the goal...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Johanseen I'm not confident, I'm CERTAIN it wont work. It will run yes, but the maximum you can achieve is around 50% of your total thrust output, doesn't matter if you have 1 bar or 10 bar. its physics man, your fighting pressure pulses and swings with nozzles designed to operate at atmospheric pre...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Thanks pyro, M's engine is cracker, a valuable engine for the forum. As its design intent was for hydrocarbon fuels it shouldn't be too hard to dial in. Flash speeds will vary a little due to environmental factors but once nailed down Johanssen's numbers can be fined tuned for other users on a vapou...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Ahh nick and I were working away in the shop and this monster spider ran out of no where and nailed a gecko for dinner. So right now everything is all about munging onto lizards, just the slang of the day. The "Crawling under a rock thing" was just living under a rock (Like a trapdoor spider) and on...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Thanks M, glad to be back. Ever so happy we see eye to eye on it. :) Vapourising coils really do the job well. I can only hope he doesn't go for E85, if its an environmental thing, not much crap will come out of the back of it anyway. Its worth noting too that E85's "Combustion Enhancers" are a pote...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Without going into detail, Pulsejets are relatively insensitive to the energy content of fuels (ie., all other factors equal, a 250 N pulsejet will develop the essentially the same thrust when operated with a variety of fuels). The "variable" will be the mass flow rate of each individual fuel type....

Re: Mike's Build Log

Absolutely wonderful Mike! Yes the far engine does seem to run a little cooler, I think its due to his near empty tanks more then anything though. Wasn't much coming out the exhausts yet so I will be surprised if he doesn't near double that 5.9 figure. Wonderful work Mike, she's an absolute beauty. ...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

It had nothing to do with one up-man ship and everything to do with giving Johanssen numbers which he asked for in the question posted at the top of the thread. Calculating top speed on ice... Was the question, It's unfortunate you saw it that way, Johanson is a talented and intellegent person who I...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Since you can die at that speed I don't see why your not using the formula I sent which is a piece of piss for anyone with a standard 2 dollar op shop calculator. One or two other formula come to mind and the problem is very simple to work out. 15 minutes and those equations will tell you everything...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

1: F=MxA (Add any friction co-efficients here and remember to work in newtons!) 2: Find the displacement in X seconds. s= ut + (1/2at^2) 3: Substitute (or graph) to find the acceleration for the displacement of 2000 meters. 4: You could then use V^2 = U^2 +2as to find your final velocity (V) when yo...

Re: "Thunderchine" 55 lb thrust pulsejet plans

Hi Grim, Congrats on your test run. When will you thrust test this? I see no issue with your current fueling rig, many engines employ injector centering brackets. Why not just get out there and give us a max vapour reading? Plenty of time for some liquid trials after that! ETA? Eagerly awaiting your...
