Re: Big Lady for FWE Test Measurements
I will first try the engine as in, but if not I think I could scrounge some aluminum sheet to make a sliding tuner. I believe I just recycled some DANGER FLAMMABLE GAS, and DANGER TEST IN PROGRESS DO NOT ENTER, signs that I could hammer into form. Lets just hope all goes well and it runs right out o...

Re: Big Lady for FWE Test Measurements
Its looking real good! Thanks for your efforts and speedy build to make this possible... Oh and for swage caps add another $300 and nuts and farrels another $300, lol, not to mention instrumentation. This should be the most expensive hobbyist pulse jet ever. Real pulse-jet experimental data ~ Pricel...

Right... I will take fault for that one, I mean to have said CDE.

Re: PDE Technology moving forward
Congratulations, you are way cooler than I thought...and still a dick, for there was no reason so shoot down a post of information that had not been presented on the forum for other members to enjoy. And unlike you, I rather not list out and disclose what I am involved in (for bragging purposed) as ...

Re: Interested? No.2 (in liquid)
GE on and off since the mid 70's has been experimenting running a turbofan on clean coal technology, while successful at times it was very crude.Mark wrote:Later, can we have a solid fuel category, say using charcoal

Re: PDE Technology moving forward
There are ongoing projects for both, but more of the valveless kind from what I see. They are using simple pressure differential to act as the valve timing the fuel/air.

Re: PDE Technology moving forward
Yea the current hurdle is liquid fuel. They want to run the engine on a common JP fuel which brings a lot of challenges to obtaining detonation; albeit it was relatively easy with ethylene or hydrogen. More energy is required to break the bonds of a complex carbon based fuel. The secret to a success...

Re: PDE Technology moving forward
Yes congratulations you having obviously no experience working for the government or government projects don't realize that you can't just post stuff regardless if some stuff have become public or not, its called conflict of interest. Just because its been leaked or even made public doesn't give me ...

PDE Technology moving forward
I have been a member of the pulse-jet community for some time and due to a conflict of interests there is much I cannot disclose. Anyway, I now have the green light to post this former DARPA proposal as its purpose overview went public. This is a great reserch explaining the use of a flying test bed...

Re: Big Lady for FWE Test Measurements
I wouldn't be so sure that pulse-jets and PDE's are left off the radar of the big jet companies. I can tell you that DARPA, Air Force, and NASA still have immense interest in these engines and have several highly active projects, they are just very well covered up as secret projects. There has been ...

Re: Lockwood Hiller won't start.
First post in several years, woohoo. Now with a career at the Advanced Aero Combustor Lab at GE Aviation, I recommend a simple radial nozzle injector. Take a look at the attached picture. It runs my lockwood nice. Also you will want to find your engines injection sweetspot, BUT it should be somewher...

well for one, I already have a beautiful steam engine built. Building a powerless quiet stirling is just not my taste. I think it will be totaly cool waiting for steam and watching the engine come alive converting heat into mechanical motion.

Free CAD from Autodesk
Autodesk, the maker of AutoCAD, has now set up a wonderful student resource center. They are offering several of their most popular and productive 3D Engineering and Graphical programs, including Inventor 11. All you need is a student e-mail address (ex. @school.edu) and you can sign up and download...

Pressure Vessel
Ok, With a little research, there is a "law" which sets the max allowable pressure inside a pressure cooker to be 15 PSI. This is the absolute minimum pressure at which my steam engine can run on. So I don't think the pressure cooker is the best method. With that being said, 120 PSI is totally on th...

Boiler
Ok, I'm a bit confused.... I'm getting a pressure cooker? And inside are these weights (explain). Do these weights store heat energy? Under pressure water will boil at a higher temperature. I though pressure cookers are only good up to 12 psi, not quite in the scope of what I need.
