Glowplug, sparkplug...whatever. I would be happy as a child at the first summerday if i only could find a source for sparkplugs with M6-7-8 thread or something close to that size. Or even just something threaded with isolated centerelectrode that can stand the heat. The side-electrode is of little u...

Well not shifting phase exactly. This is all from memory since i was a little too quick to answer without having my books available. Three transformers (or one 3-phase dito) are delta connected on both primary and secondary. When loading just one phase the currentdraw is supposed to be equal over th...

There is a couple of things that may be of some help. First of all, as i understand it you have been feeding the engine propan in gas-form. 4*1/32 (4*0.79mm) should be enough but there is a much larger volume than with a liquid fuel for the same amount of energy and a good flow is very important. A ...

You have to use a 3-phase transformer to convert it to 1 phase. It's just like any other transformer but with 3 primarys, each on its own "transformer-leg". Gives you the opportunity to change the voltage later if you make a secondary with taps on some windings. The reason i am thinking about TV-fly...

The only thing i can think of is a theory about the pyramids in egypt being gigantic waterpumps (reminded of some liquid-piston-stirlings i have seen).
But egypt is in north africa, so Scottys probably beamed him up by now.

I was just thinking.... OBIT´s (oilburnerignitiontransformers) must be just right for the HV/HF, i have some that i use for all sorts of HV powersupplies (N2 lasers and teslacoils mostly) and they all seem to fall in the 9-13kV 15-25mA. This is something i have tried to read up on for some time now...

I am sure i read somwhere about what i remember as a valveless p-jet using the pulses to pressurise a watercolumn driving the boat. Maybe not all correct discription, but something like that. What was interesting about it was that it was invented many years ago. I think it was called "something"-"so...

You dont want the relaycoil in series with the ignitioncoilprimary. Use a relay with 2 or more shifting contactgroups and separate the "buzzer"circuit from the rest. I made one a while ago when my electronic ignition gizmo decided it had enough. Basically i used one contactgroup to energize the rela...

Having the not so laidback job that it has, i would guess there is some pretty tough alloys in the tip of the centerelectrode. Being able to withstand extreme conditions like that does not go hand-in-hand with low resistans and probably that material is only used in the very tip of the electrode. Wh...

I really think you should keep your vacuumeq. the way it is.
It´s ridiculously difficult to get som good vacuumpumps etc. without spending alot of money, and if you one day gets into homebrew-lasers you will find them extremely useful.

And finally, if you trust your chemistryskills, on a rainy day you can make yourself some N2O (laughing-gas) by heating it (preferably mixed with some inert material(sand has been mentioned by others)) and bubbling the resulting mixture of nitrogenoxides through water in several steps to wash out th...

I made very simple ignitionsystem yesterday as my trusted old electronic one had drawn its last breath (and exhaled an impressive cloud of smoke). One relay with 2 (or more) switching contactgroups capable of handling at least 5 Ampere, a capacitor 0.2-0.3 uF / 300v.(or more), a standard 12v. igniti...

That was a most enlightning link! I had more or less figured out most of it by now, but a step by step description of a real-world project is quite valuable as a "motivationbooster" . Today i found the tragic remnants of a hydraulic car jack in the trunk of my car (cant remember where it came from, ...

Maybe you should take a look at some other propane torches. Many of the ones i have seen have the tiny hole in the burner so the needlevalvepart can be used for other burnersizes. On some of the bigger ones the jet was threaded into the handle/needlevalveassembly and was used with several burners of...
