Toys R Us Super Computer
I stumbled across a few articles about the Cell processor in the Sony PS3 -- right about when the price dropped to $500 -- so now I own a purported super-computer. At any rate, it wasn't too hard to find the 3.7 gig Yellow Dog Linux download and burn a dvd: tp://ftp.yellowdoglinux.com/pub/yellowdog/...

Ready made 22 degree flaming frappus?
The average flame cone angle for my better running jars (4" to 8") are approx. 22 degrees. My next project will be to build a CC matching a flame cone of 22 degrees. As a side note I compared the FWE chamber and found it to be approx. 10 degrees. As an aside-aside, the oil jars that Mark posted loo...

Annular engines
Well, who says the section of the annular duct has to be the same as in a corresponding tubular duct? No one, as far as I can tell. I think that there is general agreement that you would need to fiddle with the duct dimensions to get them where they need to be. I just proposed "1/4 CC cross section...

Radial Inlet
I think that there have been a few coaxial engines that have been made and I'm pretty sure a few of these have actually been successfully operated. One problem with having OD of the inlet "annulus" match that of the combustion chamber is that you are basically maximizing the friction. It might be be...

OpenOffice
It's all I use at home. I like Excel a little better than Open Office Calc. On the other hand, OO offers a lot more variety in the scripting department. I never use Access, and wouldn't use it even if it were free, so I haven't compared it to OpenOffice "Base", its free alternative. Open Office Writ...

Deep Thoughts, by Jack Handy
LOFL, love your new tag line! I need a new one. Glad you enjoyed it  Can't remember where I got it though??, not one of mine unfortunately, I'm not that smart! If we can't have a laugh every now and then, we've lost the plot!! Cheers, Smithy. I remember it as one of the "Deep Thoughts, by Jack...

Experimenting with fluidic circuit ideas
It's pretty easy to make little jigs out of lexan and wood that can be used as 2d flow simulators. Depending on what you are testing, you can sometimes run a simulation using a steady-state flow. In other cases, you might need to simulate a combustion cycle (the jig can probably survive a single-cyc...

Stagnation point combustor
On the other hand, I did some experiments firing a "pop-gun" device into a stagnation chamber and the results are astonishing -- maybe for some of the the same reasons. The combustion in the pipe seems to drive gasses ahead of it, and as they bounce off the back wall of the chamber, the flame front ...

Wet blankets and all that
Well, I'm a little confused by the introduction of wave issues, since fluidics rely on flux -- and with the size of the intakes on an average pj vs the wavelength, the system is probably best modeled as a time-varying flux, so I'm not sure that I see any domain mismatch here. Granted that whether a ...

x-flow
Wow, that might be an absolutely ingenious idea. I think that I remember seeing a patent where they used scavenged air from a jet compressor stage to prevent reverse flow in a valveless pulsed detonation engine. If that idea works well, then maybe the following would work. Suppose that you have two ...
