Recording equpment...

Luc You have not been forgotten. I have been giving the recording equipment some thought and have done a bit of research. I have a list in mind, but would want Graham to give it his blessing before you buy anything. Expect a posting late tonight with Part numbers and sources where they can be obtain...

OK guys, there is only one thing inside the engine and I can't imagine Patrick was in there just to cop a feel. Were you trying to dampen a dancing heat exchanger? Do you really think resonance in the fuel system could be at the root of the problem? If so, how about adding in the possibility of flex...

FIX?

Viv You’re killing me! Now I’m going to be on the edge of my seat for the rest of the day waiting for the results of these mysterious tests! I hope it does turn out to be something simple and easy to fix. Even if it is, I think we will all still feel a sense of accomplishment that we participate...

3rd stage spillage

Guys When I was with Luc to record the engine he showed me some video of a night firing they did. The 3rd stage spillage was very clear in that video and I simply attributed it to the intake tuning problems we already knew existed. Unfortunately, I did not think to pass along that bit of information...

Nose cone and test conditions

Luc I looked carefully at the picture of the expanding nose cone and believe that some measurements are in order. It might be that the nose cone is expanding, but it is also possible that the Combustion Chamber is shrinking. If I remember correctly, you told me that the combustion chamber is a 7 inc...

Mike If you want some cold weather testing, I'm your man cause it is snowin again in Buffalo. If you're into that, make mine a big one, plug it and add a little stinger if you please. Might be best to start with something that we know runs in less than artic weather, I can always make changes later....

New Heat Exchanger details

Luc Your explanation of how you were going to wind and anneal the new coils at 2000 °F sounds as though it should eliminate a lot of problems. Additionally, your use of a straight coil entrance and exit should prevent the nasty cracks you showed me at the 45 degree joint just inside the combustion ...

Does it do anything for thrust, or is it just a nice show?

Pulsejet History Well and Truly Made, March and the 130R PJ

Gentlemen

Your first post stated:

1. “Testing will resume in March, when we plan to measure the QD-80's TSFC and collect audio-video recordings of the operating engine for full analysis.â€

Is the forum backed up on a regular basis?

Does anyone know if the operators of this forum backs up and archives the data on a regular basis? I would hate to see all this knowledge disappear.

More on the 130R

Luc I am glad the package arrived OK and am especially pleased that it provides new information that may help. ** IMPORTANT: At first glance the plans only appear to be for the oval intake, but keep going. There are A,B and C sections. If I remember correctly, what you are looking for (the 130R) is ...

143HZ source

Raymond and Viv:
Could the 143HZ be the pulsation resulting from combustion / turbulence / air spring formed in the nosecone and combustion chamber?

Misc updates

Luc: You should have the plans, etc... in your hands today, or tomorrow at the latest. I hope the latest series of modifications pay off. Patrick: The new batch of pictures looks great, thanks again! From the sound of it you will be busy for the next few days modifying the engine. Have fun and best ...

Difference in frequency distribution

Viv
How much of the differences you see come from the fact that I was not using the best mic for the job and how much do you think are something else?

New Heat Exchanger

Luc The posting you did of the new Heat Exchanger coil is a beautiful thing. The solid works viewer really is nice. One more suggestion I have is to make the new coil winder so that you can build coils with both 5 turns and 6 turns. Adding a 6th turn to the coil will add 20% more area to the heat ex...
