Re: Mike's Build Log

Been a long time since I've been here and obsessing about jam jars!

Re: Jam Jar Car Fun

I'm thinking beer can with tangential jet exits or a diverter to make it spin, and fix some superlight rotors to that. Sit it on a bearing so it can get up some spin before lifting off. Theres the issue of being a burning fuel sprinkler, though.

Re: Cant start pulse jet

Lengths and area ratios must be in a range, intake almost always needs a flared inlet. When using a leafblower, farther away from the intake is best. wave back and forth in various amounts of dead-on. It may be just the little fringe of the blower stream going in from a foot away. When you push it r...

Re: Jam Jar Car Fun

Yeah, that is fun. And seriously, we need to do a jamjar helicopter. I may have to start a thread for that.

Re: Odds and ends

I was thinking drops falling down a flue long enough that they go spherical, but then somehow want to not distort when cold is instantly, somehow, applied. Liquid nitrogen vapor lower in the flue, but with baffles or something to make a sharp change in temperature, I'm thinking. We want the highest ...

Which reminds me that I want to try and make some perfectly spherical Prince Rupert's drops.

Re: Please put your "I am new and need help" question here.

Welcome! Start a build log thread for this titanium jet. Should be good. Can't wait to see the color of it running. I have a similar Thermojet, but a bit smaller. Looks like you areabout ready to weld.

Ha, nice. Sure does seem that the intake and exhaust alternate. I truly think that u-bent motors benefit from this effect.

Re: Valveless pulsejet-computational fluid dynamics

The velocity has a direction vector left and right. Maybe a silly thing I'm wondering, as we see the propagation of the velocity changes, which does indicate a change in direction. I'm trying to wrap my mind around whether I can be fooled by interpreting the propagation of the velocity change with g...

Re: Valveless pulsejet-computational fluid dynamics

Oh, that one is fun to watch! I would love to see the pressure animation as well. Does it not make sense that the velocity scale should be -300 to +300m/sec? Loses that "hot-cold" spectrum, but freezing it would allow some better interpretation.
