re: Lures

Nice, makes me miss fishing a bit. I think those bright colours would work nicelt for winter fishing or fishing at dawn/dusk.

I stopped fishing when I found that catching fish wasn't that important to me, it was just as fun to just feed them and watch the fish.

It would be interesting to see a comparison between a normal nozzle and an aerospike nozzle. Perhaps that's a twist you could sell to the professor?

re: live chat

I would agree that a live chat could be a negative thing too, but I like the thread cooldown idea, Anders its really good infact... I think it promotes sensible thinking if a thread becomes way too heated. One should feel obliged to "turn the page" when the thread is unlocked. Exactly. I don't like...

re: live chat

I'm afraid I'm with Larry on this. It would be nice to be able to chat away and get quick responses on questions, but people need to learn to calm down first. What might work, which I use at my site, is voice chat. I use TeamSpeak, a free software with clients for Windows, Mac and Unix/Linux. I've f...

re: Succesfull school project

Nice to see a jet as a school project! My first impression is that the diameter of the intake looks a bit big. The sides of the combustion chamber looks like they are screwed in place, not welded. Is it completely tight, or may there be leaks? The reduction valve on the tank may also be the culprit....

That would be "axial play" Anders.
Thanks. When I heard it, I recognized the word. Too bad my memory can't drag it out by itself...

re: Help with lathe decision

From the pictures, it looks like it's a bit more than just a cleanup. All the small stuff looks downright rusty. Also, if some handles have been broken off, I wonder how much violence it has been subjected to? With any lathe or mill, you should check that everything is nice and snug. If there is any...

re: Fun with particles

Maybe you have some fun projects to show me. I haven’t actually seen (heard?) a pulsejet live.
Nope, not yet. My workshop is not really equipped for that work just yet, and I have no good test site to run them without neigbours getting upset.

re: Fun with particles

Hey, almost a neighbour (I live in Borlänge)!

What strikes me with all those videos is that almost nothing escapes through the intake. Since the intake is facing backwards, it doesn't matter much, but it's still worth thinking about.

re: Thrust without reaction mass?

Trapped! That's the single downside of conservation of (angular) momentum. Since there is no "fixed*" ground to work against in free space, you're probe would be heavily affected by counter-effects, i.e. it would be under the affect of changing angular momentums, such so that it would start to spin...

re: Thrust without reaction mass?

There is no reason for this not to work. Then the question becomes: why is it not used? It would be perfect for applications such as deep space probes, which have plenty of energy (often a nuclear reactor) but little room for reaction mass, not to mention that you don't have to spend fuel to accele...

Thrust without reaction mass?

I once saw a TV program about a device to produce thrust without reaction mass, they even showed a working model on a canoe. Something tells me this is bullshit and that it will not work and I think I've heard claims that it is. The problem is that I can't see why it shouldn't work, which annoys me ...

I was in Borlänge a month ago, on my way to Malung to pick up a car. But whenever I´m in the neighbourhood again I´ll come and visit you.
Malung? I'm glad you got out alive. :)

Just give me a call before you drop by so I'll be home.
