New Danish Currency
Canada's currency has some ingenious anti-counterfieting measures worked into the design, but unfortunately it is still easy for blind people to get taken. You can tell if Danish money is real just by the way it feels sitting in your hand: http://www.top-delire.com/image/money/images/argent-money.gif

There's nothing wrong with South Beach hotties. If you want neo-Christian values, go to Washington. Mark, what is an MRE?

Re: Trebuchet
My plan was to dig a big hole then cast a large mass of concrete around a lubricated PVC tube, the I would slide out the plastic once the cement had cured. The black powder charge would propel the ballistic vehicle to an altitude of several hundred feet and a velocity suitable for firing a ramjet wh...

Re: Trebuchet
Well sure the CATS prize was only a quarter-million but it's way easier to send a lousy 2 kg of aluminum up into LEO than three humans with life support, etc. I'm really suprised nobody won the CATS prize. I figured it could be easily done for under $50,000. I was on the verge of building some sort ...

Re: I-Pods.
It's incredible how far personal technology has come. In 1985, if you had told me that people would be taking pictures with their mobile phones and downloading free music in their homes, I would have laughed my head off. Now Viv is recommending that Tom carry 35 gigs of mp3 with him, which is about ...

Sorry to hear its on its way back to LA despite all your efforts. Regular air mail takes longer but is much cheaper and way less complicated.

I read that the X Prize is going to be an annual affair now. Too bad the CATS prize isn't still up for grabs, it was much smaller but also much easier to win.

Re: The largest possible
A Dynajet with a 4 foot wide tailpipe would make just under 6300 lbs of thrust. I am still curious as to the operating frequency of such a large jet. What is the L/D ratio of the Dynajet?

Re: The largest possible
Don't forget you have to keep the L/D ratio within certain limits (usually around 9:1) so that your 4 foot wide jet would be 36 feet long. Is it possible to have an operating frequency that is a fraction of a Hertz, where one cycle takes longer than one second? Imagine the huge chuffs of exhaust com...

It's a low-res pic taken on a typically crappy English day, Tom. Looks fine to me. That crazy guy Grado mentioned is most likely the same guy from the PBS special (I saw it, it's awesome). How many English guys can there be out there building full-size trebuchets? I can only dream of having enough m...

And then it has to be approved by Fedex Trade Networks (a customs brokerage that works for Fedex) after that. That sounds somewhat less than promising. Perhaps you should call the Toronto Sun and tell them about it. It sounds like the sort of rabble-rousing anti-corporate story they would love to p...

So where did they send your scooter today? Diego Garcia? Chisasibi, PQ? The Trans-Dniester Republic? Please keep us posted, Paul. I was a bicycle messenger for years and a long, complicated tale of package misdirection always amuses me. It's hard for me to sleep until I find out where the delivery f...

Do you think FedEx might be f*cking things up for Mark? Maybe his missing frames are in a warehouse in Buffalo or something. I'm still waiting for my Russian uranium. They better get it up here before it starts to fizz!

Re: Blippy scrolling
Mark, your computer kicks ass and should present no physical bottlenecks to performance whatsoever. Perhaps something is not plugged in properly inside or maybe your video card drivers might need an update. My own amateur opinion is that you have some kind of virus or spyware or something running. I...

Re: tapering tubes?
Most tables are about 30" or 32" high, so the legs would be slightly shorter than that.
