Re: NEW GERMAN 90er Pulse Jet

You are MIG welding?

Why not TIG weld, it's a much nicer way to weld thin material.

I don't grind the welds on my engines, TIG is neat enough that you don't need to.

Here's how I make my engines

Welding tutorial

I'm party-way through writing/filming a tutorial for those folks who want to make lightweight pulsejet engines from stainless-steel. I'm covering the basics of TIG welding and the special considerations when working with stainless of between 0.45mm and 1.5mm. Lots of tips, tricks and hints. If anyon...

Re: FMX-4

Having two engines, each significantly displaced from the center-line of the airframe will produce *major* problems if one of those engines stops for any reason. The result will be an immediate spiral due to the offset thrust. Also, looking at the drawing you posted, that will *not* be a very fast a...

Re: Big Linear FWE for a Paying Client

You should have tried standing behind the twin 160lbs-thrust LH engines I used in my dragster. At anything less than 30 yards, it was like being whacked on the head with a ball-peen hammer -- the concussion went right through your skull bones. At up to about 50 yards, the pressure waves on your body...

Re: where to find stainless steel u-bend or 90

Look for an engineering supplier who supplies components for the food industry.

These bends are pretty standard components in the dairy and other food industries.

Watch you don't get gouged for price though.

Re: Pulsejet Kayak

Pshh this kid sounds like a pussy :D But I see where you're comming from. What are the issues you were talking about, besides the obvious? I know the Thunderchine is an EXTREMELY tuned engine that will (probably, no experience) function poorly or not at all with any construction flaws but I can't t...

Re: Pulsejet Kayak

I have all the jigs and tooling here to knock up a lockwood in next to no-time so that's generally what I tend to build when I'm working on a fixed-fee such as the contracts with TV shows. It might surprise you to learn that I did originally build a ThunderChine using the updated plans from this web...

Re: Big Linear FWE for a Paying Client

Remember, I'm working from a 50 lb tank. Seems to me that on a warm day starting with a newly filled tank, I surely ought to be able to get 5 minutes before that much cool-down. We'll see, I guess. You might want to consider drawing liquid propane and building an evaporator. I did this for one part...

Re: Liquid fueling

Larry, when learning to fly U-control you don't "ramp' or jerk the controls at all. U-control models can actually be *very* easy to fly. Hold the handle vertically so that the rearmost control line is at the top of the handle. U-control models are set up so that pulling on the rear line makes the el...
