Re: New Members

I suppose this seems like a good place to post being a new member and all. My name is Jonathan, I’m 23 years old, I’m married with one child, and another on the way, and I live in Crawley, West Sussex, UK. My username is fastnova because I love Nova’s, I have owned three of them to date. My email ad...

First Gas Turbine Project

So here we have the start of my first gas turbine project. Went to my local scrap yard to get the bits I needed. Decided that as they have a reputation for seriously overcharging I would take as little metal home as possible, therefore I striped the turbo right down while I was there and what you se...

Re: Been a while - new project, T04 Gas Turbine.

The one other thing I will be doing though is building a speed controller for the motor to put the finishing touch on the setup. Talking of speed controllers, I used to work in the toolroom for a company manufacturing potentiometers; I have loads of the dammed things some ware. Let me know what kin...

Re: Been a while - new project, T04 Gas Turbine.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying I am greatly experienced, I have only been in engineering since I left school 7 years ago. I have experience in most areas of engineering, especially manual machining. I find this gives me a good background to cnc, for example, I actually know why the tool cuts the met...

Re: Been a while - new project, T04 Gas Turbine.

It’s a shame you don’t live near me, I would have stuck that shaft on our centre-less grinder for ya and had it done in seconds. Seems like such hard work for something so simple. Shame the carbide tools didn’t work, you do need to spend series money on tips if you want quality, has anyone ever trie...

Re: Someone has to try this

You know there is another way you could do something similar but would be a little (but only a little) safer and a hell of a lot easier. Hydrogen Peroxide coming onto contact with certain metals, silver, copper, there are more. You can get the peroxide imported from Sweden and it’s not as expensive ...

Re: Turbo based jet engine?

Am of to the scrap yard this weekend to find myself a nice little turbo, because I plan to replace all the bearings and such the condition of the turbo isn’t real all that important, as long as the turbines are in one piece anyway. If it all works will have a go at making my own turbines on my next ...

Re: Turbo based jet engine?

Yea that’s the kinda thing I’m getting at, but where heck do you find a turbo that big? Could it perhaps be from a small jet engine, I know that some of the smaller ones do have centrifugal compressors. I just have this dream of a 5kg car with 10kg of thrust, may have a problem keeping it a car thou...

Turbo based jet engine?

Hi all, this is my first post here, well I say that. I was a member a good few years ago and was quite interested in the BCVPE but other commitments took priority, I always checked in every now and then. Any ways, I’m back now. I have been toying with the idea of making a turbo based powered jet eng...
