Re: Congratulations!

Hejsan Anders! As you can see we had a very successful first test. Awesome video, mate! Despite the compression imposed by Youtube , the acoustic spectrum is excellent. Motor resonance frequency (via f1-f6 series weighted average) is 163.3-163.5 Hz (excellent agreement); with peak acoustic power at ...

Re: Lighter than lead

Hejsan Anders and Erik! We made an important discovery tonight, Erik and I. We found out that lead weighs exactly 14 times more than beer! That was one reason I switched from drinking lead to ale . Another was the sickness (shakes and tremors) the lead lagers caused me. The disappointing head (no he...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Hej! Keep in mind that in the vicinity of the combustor-transition join , the circumference is ca . 450 mm; not so many turns are required to collect sufficient energy for vaporisation. Again, note Joe's setup. Also note the excellent advice offered on this thread re: how , what , and where to conne...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Hejsan Anders! Perhaps I should make a preheat coil and run with the bottle inverted after all. Sounds like a plan. The net effect is that you are injectoring vapor, so you only need to concentrate on getting your vaporising coil designed then fabricated correctly . Many example exist on the forum. ...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Hejsan Anders! I will make a dual outlet nozzle for the leaf blower. Bad idea, that; starting air need only be applied to one inlet. Joe has had some experience with this. bring a bag of tools in case I need to modify the injectors or anything else. Good idea, that. And not just for Swedes. I...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Hejsan Anders! Sometimes it becomes quite obvious that I really like manufacturing. Never would have noticed that about you, mate. The kick is finally ready for its first test this weekend. Woot! :D Be prepared to be patient: Thunderchine can be rather difficult to start. Tim ("wakmat") was a...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Hej! The total injector area is 40mm2. You will likely need to cut this down by half or so. After testing the open probe tips "as is", you may want to snip and crimp both tips down, Rosscojector style. Whatever works best. The email has arrived and a reply is well on its way through the Atlantic fib...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Hejsan Anders! Things are coming together nicely. I'll say! What size are your injector ports, and how many do you have per injector? Assuming these are simple orifice ports , you will need the equivalent of ~ 10 mm2 per injector to realise anything approaching maximum thrust. Cheers, M. P...

Oh my. A man with tools, the hands to use them...and a brain that thinks. A rare and most dangerous combination!

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Hejsan Anders! I spent a couple of hours on the rear mount today. Very sweet. I do have one question: what restrains the engine from chattering on top of its cradle? I see a potential for mischief in the lack of positive control, but perhaps I am missing some detail? Btw . , I will have the requeste...

Re: Calculating top speed on ice...

Hejsan Anders! Do[es] a[n] 11kg propane bottle produce enough gas at 15C to get the engine running any higher than idle? I suggest feeding from two (2) such bottles; this is adequate to sustain a high thrust level for a time. And yes, this configuration has been tested (ie . , it is a known good con...

Re: Shiver me timbers!

Anders, If it weren't for the ejectors this wouldn't be a problem since I then could weld a pair of bolts to either side of the super cone just like the rear mount is made for the test frame... You are thinking too small. Take the mounting rail idea, make it much shorter and relocate it to the botto...
