Theoretically scaling pulsejets UP

This is a purely theoretical thread as while a lot of us have scaled jets down and had them run, not many of us have been able to scale them up higher than a few hundred pounds of thrust. The highest documented thrust I have encountered in my research has been about 900lbs in a NACA paper which was,...

I agree, a VERY neat little package. Thanks very much for publishing your hard work.

Can you tell me, how would it be affected by having one large intake compared to four smaller ones?

re: Questions/comments about my Pulsejet Design.

I don't completely understand your drawing. Is the valve plate mounted at 90 degrees to the combustion chamber, facing to one side? That would not be good.

Propane injection is best directly behind the valves.

It's 75mm in diameter which is convenient because you can buy exhaust pipe bends in that diameter.

Jonny's handshaking thread

I've always taken great joy in the way people shake hands as I believe it can say quite a lot about the other person. I've made up a list of a few types of handshake I've encountered and/or suffered over the years. Have fun reading ;) Bone Cruncher: Everyone has had this one, it's not limited to str...

re: eliminating (or significantly reducing) recoil

To answer the original question, no you can't stop it. Newton's third law of motion: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So in the case of a freestanding gun barrel energy goes into the bullet, energy goes into the gun (you get that as recoil) and a little is lost as heat which...

Lol, Trafalgar Square. My girlfriend can see it from her desk at work.

And his warship, HMS Victory is dry-docked and fully restored at Portsmouth.

re: using resonance frequency for increased efficiency?

Inlet manifolds and exhaust headers are tuned to resonant frequencies that result in a supercharging effect at certain rpm for the inlets and a scavenging effect for the exhaust that actually sucks the exhaust out.

re: measuring fuel to thrust ratio

Simplest has got to be take a bottle of propane, sit it on the bathroom scales and weigh it so you know the start weight of fuel. Start the jet up on full power and measure the thrust with a fish scale (or Newton meter) and time how long it takes get through a unit of fuel. That way you can work out...

Hi Leo I like the way you're hiding behind a bin and the way it appears to be started with a hammer and a hacksaw. Love the ghetto style! Keep up the good work! Intruiging design.
