re: Pulsejet Turbine

John, any pics of yours so far? I've got all the build pics of mine so I might put them online for anyone to refer to. Video will be around Christmas time. All my gas gear is at my mum's place and I'm not going there again until mid December. I would buy some more, but I'm on a bit of a student budg...

Re: re: Valve life

Cool, would be nice! Unfotunately I may not be able to access the forum the next two weeks. I don't seem to have it in PDF format any more, just a paper copy, but it's US Patent Office patent 3,486,331 titled JET ENGINES and patented Dec 30, 1969 by Earl Waldo Brown. It seems to be here as a 3-page...

Re: re: Valve life

Btw, Jon, did you do anny further research on pulsed combustor internal conditions? E.g. temperature and pressure measurments, etc. Unfortunately not, but I did find a pulsejet patent which sticks a baffle half way down the tailpipe. It lets you run a mega short engine as it reflects the bang strai...

re: Pulsejet Turbine

Hi John, the inlet for the turbo is rectangular, 50mm x 75mm so if I wanted to use it as a turbine I would probably use a 3" tail squeezed into the right shape at the end. I've got no use for the turbo so I'm just really interested in making the original pulsejet a bit bigger for fun in the garage a...

That is a beautiful engine Max. You get a gold star for using and abusing it!

re: Pulsejet Turbine

Hi John, I've still got it all in the garage. The bigger turbo is about a 9" casing on the exhaust side and I turned up a bearing housing to fit onto that so I could use regular ball bearings. The wheel inside was 60mm diameter I think. It was quite hard to throttle it quickly but once it got going ...

Re: re: Pulsejet Turbine

What are you saying Mike? lol I look forward to the read tonight, John, thanks! Did you put any load on the turbo? I know "read the paper!" The hardware looks great, BTW. Actually I didn't measure it but I did grab it before it got too hot to see what it was doing. Even overcoming the friction of th...

re: Pulsejet Turbine

Lol, it was at this point my lecturers were questioning whether I really ought to have been doing this project! I still can't believe I managed to talk them into it.

re: Valve life

Titanium is an odd material. I had a sample and when it is cold looks like an ideal metal. It kind of confuses you when you hold the stuff, it looks and feels like aluminium to touch but it's as stiff as spring steel, ie super light and super stiff. The trouble being when it gets hot it oxidises ver...

Pulsejet Turbine

http://www.jonny69.co.uk/images/jet-proto.jpg Hi all, as there's a bit of interest in my pulsejet turbine I thought I'd start a new thread on it. I based my final year at university around this project and earned a good degree out of it! A link to my dissertation is at the bottom which makes good r...

re: Valve life

Hi all,

I'm having huge difficulties getting to this site so please excuse my late responses. What did you think of my little video? That was mild steel valves which didn't last long at all!

I'll make a new thread for the pulsejet turbine!

re: Valve life

Hi Ben. The only paper I published was my final dissertation, but the project wasn't extending valve life specifically, it was a pulsejet turbine, so the valve thing was a spinoff. I was experimenting quite a lot and did a lot of theory so I could run my engines longer, but the various grades of sta...

re: Valve life

Hi all, I'm new here but did substantial research at university in making the valves last longer. Interestingly everyone uses spring steel for valves which is probably one of the worst materials when it comes to heat. When it gets hot it goes soft and breaks up, then when it cools the temper is lost...
