Re: From Russia without Valve

There was a time when I would have said yes. These days, I'm more of the opinion that the inherent randomness and turbulent mixing in a pulsejet will mean that, at best, it makes no difference.

Re: More free plans: 40 pound Chinese

Over here in communist frenchystan, if they sell it to you as propane, it's 100% propane (I checked the MSDS for my supplier, nothing special, this is supermarket forecourt stuff). There are small bottles of propane / butane mix sold for eg blowtorches, but they are marked as such. If you're running...

Re: More free plans: 40 pound Chinese

That doesn't seem to be close, it's not barking, popping, or howling. When you're getting close, you should be getting the sort of bangs that make you soil yourself, especially with an engine of this size. Regulators are usually a problem in terms of flow, not in terms of pressure. I think this may ...

Re: From Russia without Valve

Hello Alexander. Nice looking jet, good work. Numerical modelling of pulsejets is something that's been tried quite a few times, with varying levels of success. It's enormously complex and I'm not sure it will ever be cracked 100% - I suspect most "design" is a lot of copying wa's already been done,...

Re: University research project topic

Hello Theo. It's an interesting field, but a fairly old one, and a lot of this stuff has already been done to death. Noise reduction has been a holy grail, but we're talking about a thermo-acoustic engine, so... There was a university team that came up with a tiny, tiny valveless jet at one point, I...

That's one to really annoy the neighbours with. Mind you, that's what it was developed for.

Re: Gerald Wiles

I researched that some time ago and I'm not sold on it yet. From what I understand, if you send them somethign to scan, you never get it back, and they give no timeframe for when it is available on their website, because it depends on their funding. Could take from a few months to a year. You can, ...

Anything that remains needs to be preserved. If nothing else, at least get it scanned and onto archive.org, that way it's not lost.

I'd be interested as well.

Sad to hear the news, though. He seemed like a really nice guy.
