Re: Transcoding utilities and video hints

Amen. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Making your material accessible to all usually takes a minimal effort, if any, but if you don't it will often require a major effort on the part of the viewer.

More on heat transfer

Hi Larry

I previously linked to this in the tools an construction forum, but just in case you didn't see it, here it is again. I haven't read it myself, so I can't really tell you if it's any good, but if you want to learn more about heat transfer, it might be worth a look.

Hi Lotus, and welcome to the forum. To put it shortly, the Germans did an incredible job on the me 262. The me 262 was miles ahead of any other fighter aircraft at the time it was made, and it really must be considered one of the greatest milestones in aviation history. Besides being the first jet p...

Oh, and then there is this:

This site offers physics textbooks that you can download for free or buy in print. The books have been adopted at ten colleges and universities, and eight high schools.

Also Wikibooks might be worth checking out.

And don't forget the excellent MIT OpenCourseWare

Interesting read

Just thought someone might find this useful: "The third edition of A Heat Transfer Textbook, written by John H Lienhard V (MIT) and John H Lienhard IV (U Houston), has been made available on the web. The book is an introduction to heat transfer, geared towards engineering students. It may be downloa...

Hi Larry

Unfortunately the power cord has been cut, so I guess that isn't really an option. Besides, the prospect of hauling the motor halfway across town on the back of my bike makes this solution a bit less attractive :)

Hi Mike (and all) I just checked the motors again, and it turns out I was wrong about the small one, it is only a 1,5 kW unit, not 2 kW. They are rated at 380 volts, 6,8 and 3,7 amps respectively. The diameter of the shafts is about 3 centimeters, but unfortunately the inside diameter of the larger ...

Question of efficiency

True, except the motors aren't 100% efficient - some energy will be lost as heat etc.

And neat idea about the ramjet thing, might be a bit ambitious though -- considering I know nothing about those engines.

Electric motors - any ideas?

Hi all I just found two fairly big electric motors in a dumpster, now I only need to figure out what to do with them, and where would be a better place to ask than here? One is rated 3 kW, the other 2 kW. I have no idea what kind of power they'll give, but considering they weigh in at about 100 and ...

Not really new.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm afraid someone (more specifically one George Rulikowski Korab) beat you to this one by half a century :) I knew I had seen something like this before, and after a bit of digging, I found a British patent describing this idea. The patent number is GB711159, it can be ...

Awesome source of information

I wasn't quite sure in which forum to post this (Hint, hint Kenneth - can we please have an off-topic forum again?), but here goes. For a great source of various science books, check out The National Academies Press , which was created by the National Academies to publish the reports issued by the N...
