re: the bipe and the bro's

Bruno said: I can't remember the name of the bamboo thing... I believe it was called the "Batso" In fact I found a pic: http://www.melindakelley.com/events/images/batso_jpg.jpg My dad and I nearly built an Easy Riser (never finished). It was from an early kit that had the blue foam ribs with the woo...

Make Magazine

I didn't see mention of this anywhere in the forums, but I just discovered Make magazine and they had an article on building a jam jar, plus there's an URL to this website there and another to Larry Cotrill's JetZilla. Anyway, I find the magazine interesting because it contains interesting projects ...

re: Johansson´s Pocketbike

Hey Anders. Definitely a neat looking project! BTW, are you planning to use some sort of FOD screen/filter? It looks like the front wheel is right in front of the intake (or am I not interpreting the photo correctly?).

Re: re: Electric Hybrid Turbine

Another way of doing it is of course by using electro-magnetic bearings since it is an electrical turbine. A bit more work though... *smile* Yes, magnetic bearings would be neat. If feasible, it would eliminate the need for an oil system. The coil will surely have to endure much stress if it is mea...

re: Electric Hybrid Turbine

Here's a diagram of what I'm talking about. Each stage is mounted on a stationary central spindle and rotates on it's own set of bearings.

Does that clear up what I'm talking about Horace?

re: Electric Hybrid Turbine

Could you sketch some drawings to illustrate your idea, as a picture is worth a thousand words.
Sure Horace, be happy to. Check back in about six hours (I should have time to put something up).

Electric Hybrid Turbine

I've been thinking about this idea for a couple of years and started to accumulate materials to conduct some experiments, but other things have taken priority. The idea is to create a high-bypass axial-flow turbofan engine that uses electricity to rotate the compressor. Then you rig the turbine(s) w...

re: Using pulsejets as combustors?

Cool. Thanks for the response. Interconnecting ducts? Back in '92 or so I was dreaming up a pulsejet design that used multiple combustors with interconnecting ducts, but for the purpose of trying to raise the compression ratio of a pulsejet. My thoughts were to borrow the cumbustion pressure from on...

Using pulsejets as combustors?

I wonder if y'all have any opinions on this idea. The idea is you use a pulsjet inside a tubojet. The turbojet would compress the intake air as it normally would but in the combustion zone you could situate six or so Chinese valvless engines or a single annular pulsejet. Positives, as I see them, ar...

re: Yet another silly idea with pulsejets...

The scary thing about this though is the reliability. As someone else alluded to in this forum it's like pulsejets have no flywheel. Miss one beat and the the rug is pulled out from under you. Literally, in this case.

re: Yet another silly idea with pulsejets...

I like the idea. Here's a bit of a variation: How about a purpose-built annular lockwood that looks like a thin doughnut configured so that the intake and thrust all take place at the frosting side of the doughnut. Then you mount it "frosting side down". The locky then has a big hole in the middle a...

re: help in designing a small turbine

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/Compressor_Stage_GE_J79.jpg The above picture from Wikipedia should answer your earlier question about compressor blade design. 1. Not only do the blades get smaller, but they get more numerous with each successive stage. 2. The amount of air space...

re: help in designing a small turbine

does anyone know of a centrifugal flow turbine that doesnt use a turbocharger's turbine/compressor? if i can locate one that doesnt require me to buy something off of ebay i may start that project. From your follow-up post, it sounds like you are on your way to some interesting projects. To answer ...

re: ramjet plans

The Ramgen is an interesting idea. I don't see how it could be revolutionary, however because ramjets are not particularly efficient. Also, you could probably create an engine that has similar characteristics by placing two or more ramjets on an arm and point them in opposite directions much like th...

Nomenclature: pulsejet vs ramjet (Was V1 Clone)

I recall reading somewhere that the brits often used the term ramjet to refer to a plusejet. Can anybody else corroborate?
