Re: Cheating at pulse-detonation
An Exercise In Deflageration to Detonation Copyright © 2011 By John Werner This is a method to produce a detonation using empty food cans. The first thing that may come to mind is the "TennisBall Cannon" Where empty food cans are taped together and fire a tennis ball up into the air. It takes a litt...

demo of deflaguration to detonation
This is a study in deflagration to explosion or according to Mr. Adams, deflagration to detonation. Patent number 4365471. I have been working on building a simple model out of tin cans for a class room demo of the power in just a few drops of alcohol and it worked so good that I thought about getti...

re: New member
Welcome Carl. I was beginning to think that I was the only old duffer here at 73. I enjoy reading the entrys every day but seldom do much building any more. I too am retired, I used to contract with the Martin Rocket company here in Denver many years ago and also worked with Vern Estes when he worke...

re: Plastic Soda Bottle + Alcohol = Rocket
Good morning, it's 1:15am here in Denver.
It's interesting about the hydrogen rocket and I came across a hydrogen rocket kit at:
http://www.estesrockets.com
The hydrogen rocket is on page 35 of the pdf catalog.

Re: Plastic Soda Bottle + Alcohol = Rocket
In my younger and less sane days, I came up with a cheap bottle rocket... Take a standard 2-litre soda bottle (empty and washed & dried) then drill a tiny hole centred on the bottom end (1/16-inch will work). Clean out any bits of plastic from the drilling. On the cap end place a piece of aluminum ...

How to make it continuous
ftp://videobooks.ath.cx Above is an avi file of a 2 liter pop bottle jet that develops 1 LB of thrust for 2/10ths of a second as measured on the kitchen scale. This is not enough to make the plastic bottle melt. The avi file is large, 14,500 megabites. There is also a compressed wmv at about 83k. Th...

measured thrust
I have a question. If a jet motor runs for say 2/10ths of a second and pushes a 10 ounce weight on a slick formica surface
1/8th inch would it have developed 10 ounces of thrust?

Re: Suggestions On How To Do My Own Video?
Larry, when using an analog video camera the capture board is what determines the quality of the digitized video. Capture boards such as the Truevision Targa capture board cost up from $5,000 dollars but produced good results. You of course can use a cheap capture board but the results are inferior....

Re: Marks Problems....Again : o(
Hi all: As Mark said I have been locked out of this site, I have a highspeed 1.5 megabit per second DSL synchronus connection to the internet and I have checked with both Qwest.net and also in the Nederlands where Kens domain naim is registered and they said that the pointers are up and working. The...

Re: proposed engine design
Just to clear a few things up, here is how I see the operation of the engine in the drawing. First to start the engine you pull back on the piston rod sticking out of the engine and let it snap back to the resting position. This is what the spring is for. Next you hold a flame next to the exhaust an...

Re: proposed engine design
Graham: Yes, breathing is through the nozzel like a Reynst. Using a paper piston soaked in alcohol for short runs could work and should allow a firing rate of 20hz or so. If you pump the paper piston back and forth a few times the cylinder becomes very cold, down to 32 degrees. I am hoping that this...

Re: World's smallest pulsejet?
It occurred to me that after I posted the reply to Ben that it might be easier if I just recorded a wav file of the little reynst bottle for Ben to work with. Here it is. http://www.users.qwest.net/~jwerner1/captured.wav What would happen if a small copper tube of about 1/8" dia. were to be welded s...

Re: World's smallest pulsejet?
This is in regards to Ben. Ben you can use the sndrec.exe and the sndvol.exe which are in all of the versions of Windows to capture any sound played on your computer by opening the sndvol program and then goto properties and put a tick in the stero mixer square. Now when you play the video after you...
