Re: Been a while - new project, T04 Gas Turbine.
I am using petrobond sand. It comes already mixed up and ready to go. You have to add 30W oil to it periodically as it gets cooked out over time. You can get it from budget casting supply online.

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
Been having more fun with SolidWorks and letting my imagination run free. :) Had to make several alterations to the NGV section parts - the original vane ring produced a bottleneck to flow so I had to shorten the vane chord and add a few vanes into the ring to maintain proper flow area into the turb...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
This is going to turn into a decade-long build at this rate, LOL! But at least I come with some good news! I have been so busy building my business over the past couple of years and we have gone leaps and bounds from my garage. Recently I procured a seat for Solidworks and have been ramping up my sk...

Re: Been a while - new project, T04 Gas Turbine.
WE moved our web server and the hotlink files were not moved at the time. However, we just restored the directory structure and everything is back up and visible... And on that note, looks like we will be picking up both a CNC milling center and a CNC lathe center in the near future which will move ...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
Hi Guys, I've been putting some time into this project and it is nice to see it moving forward again. Feels like the good ol days. :) I've obtained not just one, but TWO RR Allison 250 4th stage turbine wheels. Why buy one when you can get two for twice the price? :) I scored these babies for an awe...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
Hi Guys, I've been so busy the past year+ with the business - we've been growing and have moved into a 3600 sqft facility. All my equipment from the house is residing in the new building along with my turbine projects. They make great conversation pieces with customers. I've just had no time to work...

Re: Been a while - new project, T04 Gas Turbine.
This project has long since reached its end - every aspect of the project has been documented here and I would imagine that any person with the materials, equipment, and ability to to the machine work and fabrication would be able to construct the engine. As for the electronics, well that would requ...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
Hi Johansson, I have considered using a PBD as of recently - unfortunately when I designed this engine and built the comp diffuser I hadn't really entertained using one. I'm going to see how this approach works out first and then if it comes down to needing a PBD to make it work then I'll go with th...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
Been making some progress on the TV94 this past week. :) I ordered some angular contact bearings, 20mmX47mmX14mm and went to work on machining the turbine shaft, bearing housing, and spacer for the bearings. I'm pretty happy with the fitment of the bearings onto the shaft - just a little bit of resi...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
Walmart SCORE. :) Stopped by the local wally world with my stanley tape measure and found a suitable shroud for the front of the motor. It is a 4-quart bowl of some sort - perhaps for whipping up cake mix or something - nice and thin and easy to carve out. A bit more of a "retro" look than what I wa...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
Well, my petrobond molding sand pile had finally shrunk to a volume no longer able to fill my molding flask so had to order some clay resin and pickup a bag of silica sand to beef up my supply. I turned a pattern on the lathe using a high-density foam block so I could cast the compressor inlet duct ...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
After doing some searching today for the mandrel bent tubing to form the rear of the main casing I have found that trying to locate 2.0" diameter tube bent on a 3.5" centerline radius is nearly impossible. I probably called nearly a dozen tube bending companies and while a few had the dies to make t...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
Moving right along... :) A friend of mine stopped by a few days ago and I was showing him the progress on this engine and that I had ordered some aluminum welding rod to fill in the gaps on the axial diffuser vanes. Well, he happened to have some of his own but his material has a higher melting poin...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
Been a while since the last update on this thread but I haven't had much time to spend on the engine. Over the holiday weekend I did manage to knock out a few parts for her. :) I rolled a 1/8" sheet of aluminum for the axial diffuser vane baseplate and made up a "poke-stick" pattern for the axial va...

Re: TV94 TurboFan Build
After more painstaking work - several hours to radius the diffuser minor radius by hand and then turned the major diameter radius on the lathe..... http://ashspecz.com/Image%20Gallery/GasTurbineTV94Turbofan/images/P0004476.jpg http://ashspecz.com/Image%20Gallery/GasTurbineTV94Turbofan/images/P000447...
