Tufty. I tried that a long time back. It didn't work. Air amplifiers don't work well against back pressure unless really juiced with lots of hp air, then the ratio drops down to single digits. Just propane gave me a blowtorch running really lean!! Besides, I want to give it a chance to run somewhat ...

First (cold flow) measurements.

I borrowed an anemometer from work today and measured the airflow into intake of the air amplifier with ~120 psi compressed air feeding the ejector. The air flow through the 2" inlet reads about 32m/sec> I use about since the thing looks like a toy fan, and has never been calibrated. The only good t...

Not quite from scratch

I didn't photograph the internal plumbing, it is maybe not what you expect. The pipe nipple coming out of the side of the ramjet goes down to a "T" fitting. A 6" long 1/4" pipe nipple goes toward the inlet and terminates in a small spray nozzle. A 2" long pipe nipple on the back end ot the "T" is ca...

Test: well that worked!

Not quite from scratch, but off-the-shelf and found components. The diffuser and combustor part of the shell are from Burns Stainless: a 2" ring, a 2"x4" megaphone and a 12" long section of tubing expanded at one end to an I.D. of 4". The nozzle is a 2"x4" S/S concentric reducer from A and N Vacuum ...

Can you see them now?

heada.

I just sent a CD containing over 500MB of files to Mike.
Eventually they will end up somewhere on the web site
in a searchable if not browsable form. They didn't download
with actual titles, usually just publication numbers.

Giant infodump available!

Does anyone want approx. 200 MB of pdf files on pulse-jets, ramjets, rockets, etc? Over the last two years I have downloaded files mostly from NASA sites files on these subjects: They include things from NASA, the old NACA, AIAA, patents, and university publications. I want to share them! The only t...

Lazy man's ramjet

I finally got off my butt and started to build a ramjet out of nearly off the shelf components. A trip to the Burns Stainless web page found most of the stuff I needed along with someone to weld them together. The inlet diffuser is a stainless megaphone with a 2" small diameter and a 4" large diamet...

Been digging again in the old gummint files on ramjet technology. I found a good diagram of the flame holder from the BUMBLEBEE 18 inch (diameter) ramjet. The design is essentially the same as the combustion tube for a turbojet engine. For comparison I also have some pictures of the guts of commerci...

re: "The Millenium Lance" Project Build

This is one of the better things I found on the internet for providing air. I have been playing around with the idea of building a motorjet using an RC electric fanjet. The prices of the motors alone made this look like a deal! http://www.surplussales.com/Fans-Blowers/FansBlow-4.html Not beyond my b...

re: "The Millenium Lance" Project Build

If you are trying to build a wind tunnel using a garden variety fan to test a ramjet in it won't be enough. The way I read the above comments it seemed that that was what was being proposed. I think that all ramjet tests discussed in this forum have been direct-coupled tests with the output of a blo...

re: "The Millenium Lance" Project Build

A few comments and a dash of cold water: Many air movers are great when it comes to moving volumes of air. most aren't very good at producing pressure differentials. Most blowers I have seen and all inexpensive fans can only produce static pressures measured in inches of water. I was looking at a su...

re: New ramjet experiments

I have scanned a couple of ramjet diagrams from old NACA
reports. The quality isn't good buy it illustrated some points.

re: New ramjet experiments

Yup. Though even the subsonic design shown would be working at a much higher free stream velocity than anything you can test with a garden or workshop blower. The included angles for the diffuser given are for an essentially Mach0 design. With enough ram-compression you can build something with lorg...
