You could maybe attach the fuel injectors to the sleeve intakes so the injector depth and intake length vary at the same time. If you rig it right you could also have a sleeve on the exhaust that moves along with them but i don't know whether shortening the intakes and exhaust at the same time would...

The trombone one is new to me, the exhaust tube may however not be adjustable if it does run for a longer period of time due to heat expansion. i've presented it at my school (it was for a school project) so i was able to run it for a longer time, it ran pretty good till my tank froze over and it flamed out.

By doubling the gas input and an extra leafblower (replaced mine with one that varied in strength) I GOT IT STARTED. Update again, I got it running for a bit 10-15 sec but it stopped i think this was due to being out of gas not completely sure.
I think i'm gonna have to get even more gas tomorrow, probably fill up my big tank.

Update, Got it working on full power with more gas, it still didn't sustain though. The force was great enough to blow back my leafblower.
